HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-07-2001 City Council Agenda PacketMemo To: From: Date: Re: Mayor and Councilmembers Cathleen Boyer, City Clerk December 7, 2001 CiViC CENTER MASTER PLAN The attached correspondences arrived after I copied the packet. 95070 December 6, 2001 To Mayor John Mehaffey and the saratoga Gib/ Council, I Would like to encourage the city council to delay a decision on the Plans for the Saratoga Civic Center Improvement Project. As an observer at the Mayor's Adhoc Public Safety Center advisory group, it seems to me that the Public Safety Center Design Concepts should be Stud/ed before a final decision on land use at City Hall is made. As part of the design options the City mentions in/ts RFP is locating-one of the three primary agencies from the site. Options will be Presented December 17 and this may impact your 'final decision on city hall improvements. Thank you for Considering my request, Madene Duffin Sent: To: Cc: Subject: Sclavos, Stratton [stratton@verisign.com]' Wednesday, November 28, 2001 11:30 AM Beverly Tucker 'jodysclavos @ aol.com' RE: Civic Center/GYM proposal Bev, I am traveling this week, but am very interested in this project. Clearly, we would like to see the civic center project include a multi-use 95a~nasium. MY wife Jody and I have become increasingly concerned and aware of a lack of available facilities for our Saratoga youth. My understanding is that we continue to turn away many children in our community sports programs due to a lack of these types of facilities. Jody and I have been proud members of the Saratoga community for 15 years and are raising our two children in the public school systems. I cannot help but believe that a robust and lively community sports program, supported by a new multi-purpose qymnasium, would enhance the excellent educational and civic programs that we Saratoga residents enjoy. Exposing our children to the benefits of team-oriented sports will, in my Opinion, provide them with balance and confidence as they grow up in our . increasingly complex world. I'm sure the City Council receives many requests like this from citizens who would like to have the City support additional services. Jody and I understand that this is a burden the City of Saratoga may not be able to afford on its own. We are therefore also willing to commit a significant contribution to the project from our charitable foundation and will be active fundraisers should the City look to create a partnership with the community. Although I won't be able to attend the meeting in person, please feel free to convey my feelings and commitment to the City Council as appropriate. will be available over the next few weeks to discuss this matter further if appropriate.
