Hea City Atty City Mgr SUBJECT: Multiple Sclerosis Society of Santa Clara County - "Run For M.S." Issue Summar The City has been contacted by the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Santa Clara County for permission to hold their second annual "Run for M.S." on City streets. The race is scheduled for September 24, 1983, to begin at 8:30 a.m. The course of the race will in the West Valley College area, beginning and ending at the campus. Recommendation Authorize race to be held on September 24th with the stipulation that the sponsors of the race will provide the City with proof of liability insurance naming the City as an additional insured, will coordinate reserve officers, if needed, at their own cost and will be responsible for clean -up of all race related debris along the entire race course. As with last year, the run will begin and end at West Valley College and virtually the same course will be used. The race is tentatively scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. and the number of runners is anticipated to be about 500. Permission has been obtained from West Valley College to use their facilities. Enclosed is a map of the race course. This course has been used in the past and there has never been a traffic complication. Consequently, no police aid should be necessary. There will be volunteers at major points to direct runners and direct any traffic if necessary. Permission ill be obtained from the residents of Monte Vista Road to use t e- r street. Adequate medical aid will be on hand. The M.S. Society seeks your permission to conduct the race. We would appreciate any suggestions you might have and will comply with all the City's regulations. The proceeds from the race will be used for Multiple Sclerosis research.
