on to say. that a gas station in this area was unnecessary and the one
existing was an eye-sore.

to establish an appointment with the Subdivision Committee and the

M~. Warburton, operator of the Richfield Station in the Quito Park Shopping.

enormous amounts (in spite of the'.use of sprays) when there were horses
in the area before and 2) he was fond of horses and had five of his
own at one time, but did not want them so close to his home since it
eliminated outdoor life almost completely. ..
i~-s. Robert Norton, Carniel Court, advised that 1) flies are numerous
where horses are present 2) the keepin~ of horses would not affect the
neighbors as much if the adjacent lotswore zoned R-i-40,000 and 3) she
is fond of horses, but not the flies that are attracted by them.

could be used in lieu of the parking district if necessary.
Commissioner O'Rorke pointed out that the plans showing the temporary
parking have not been reviewed by the Design Review Committee.
Chairman Norton explained, to the applicant, that 1) the lack of Design
Review approval does not necessarily prevent him from proceeding with
structural construction but it does prevent renting t~o tenants and
2) once the City Council approves the Parking District Plan a temporary
parking plan will not be necessary.
After discussion, Chairman Norton directed A-204 continued to the next
regular meeting on 26 june 1967.

sign has been accepted 2) after reviewing this matter the Design'Review
Committee is of the opinion that a traffic problem exists with regard to
ingress and egress; which, could be alleviated if the building were moved
to the other side of the lot and 3) this would be undesirable from the
applicant's standpoint since the view of the building attracts business
and if it were...Situated on the other. side of the lot it would be hidden.
The Secretary stated that he had talked with Mr. Philpott, City of San Jose
Traffic Engineering Department, and learned that a traffic separatgr would
be provided if traffic volume justified such an imporvement and that there
would be one opening, in the proposed separator, but it is too early to
determine the'location of the opening.
Commissioner O'Rorke explained that a Car wash.~ke the one proposed is
located on the corner of the San Tomas Expressway and suggested that the
other members of the Commission take a look. He then recon~ended that

The Secretary explained the exhibits submitted along with the 'application
and stated that this is a legal non-conforming sign and if the new sign

City Attorney had advised that it was legal to approve this as long as
the approval does not increase the non-conformity.
Commissioner O'Rorke moved, seconded by Commissioner Kasner, that Final

and "C", but that the sign Dr. Oliver presently has for the pet clinic is
not included.
Commissioner O'Rorke stated that after studying the exhibits.it appears that
the area requirements, relative to signs, have not been met.
The Secretary stated that the area'requiremepts were considered under appli-
cation V-292 and it was decided at that time to allow 60 feet for the sign
to be located either on the building or off.
Dr. Oiiver was present and stated he did not know the exact size of the sign
he had now but that it could be reduced to 15 feet if necessary.

Committee, before granting approval, wanted to check the limitations that were
enforced on the Professional Village previously.
The Secretary stated that in checking back he discovered inconsistencies
between the conditions of Change of Zoning and the type of development the
Professional Village was proposing primarily concerning the type (residential
appearance) and number (one building per lot) of buildings.
