HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-04-1993 Library Commission Minutes Saratoga Library Commission Meeting Saratoga City Hall--~OC Room 13777 Fruitvale Avenue August 4, 1993 7:00 p.m ACTION MINUTES Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. Commissioners present: Ceppos, Grantham, Martini, Peacock, Skow Commissioners absent: none Report on Posting of CoBmission Agenda The agenda was posted on July 26, 1993. IV. ADDrOYal of Minutes of June 23. 1993 Meetina M/S Peacock/Grantham to approve the minutes as submitted. Motion passed unanimously. V. Old Business A. Fund-raising Act~itie-S - Celeb~at~ Saratoaa ! Vice-Chair Karen Ceppos gave an update on the Celebrate Saratoga! barbecue. She discussed plans for publicity and the Co~mission agreed to finalize plans at the September I study session. Dorathy Skow volunteered to attend the Celebrate Saratoga! steerir~ com4ttee meeting on August 12 and Karen Ceppos indicated that she would attend the meeting on August 26. Dorathy Skow indicated that she would request that the Friends of the Library donate a Book-Go-Rouald gift certificate for the raffle. Staff liaison Karen Campbell indicated that she would research the need for a health permit for the barbecue. s. rmunda l n Vice-Chair Karen Ceppos also gave a progress report on the foundation. She indicated that a core group of members for the planning group had been contacted and that the group would begin meeting in October. She also indicated that information was being gathered from other libraries which have established foundations including copies of bylaws. VI. Susan Fuller; County Librarian County Librarian Susan Fuller gave an update on the budget and the proposed cuts. She said that there was two hours of testimony at the County Library Commission meeting and that the budget would be going before the County Board of Supervisors on August 10, 1993. She encouraged comm_tssioners to attend and also to contact · Supervisor McKenna's office and express their concerns. She indicated that her concern was with the materials budget which has been reduced by 74% over a two year period. Dolly Barnes; Community Librarian Coam{mity Librarian .Dolly Barnes discussed the impact that the budget cuts would have on services at the Saratoga Cornunity Library. She said that the feedback that she was getting from the community was supportive and that the emphasis was on maintaining the Library's quality of services. Karen Campbell.
