II. New Business A. Discuss "Historic bicycle ride" for this fall. V. Young introduced Joan Pisani and Tom Walters from the City Recreation Department, who were in attendance to discuss setting up a "Historic bike ride" for this fall. The event will be co-sponsored by the HPC and the Recreation Department with Joan taking care of the publicity and other details.Joan gave information on a similar event recently held in Fremont, where there were three bike loops to chose from of 16, 23, or 32 miles each. The HPC discussed traffic concerns , the smaller size of Saratoga and hilly terrain. Joan suggested that it could be a 2-3 hour event, starting at 10-11 in the morning, with registration /start at the Community Center and ending in a family picnic at Wildwood Park. A poker game could be incorporated into the event to make it more fun (get a card at each house you stop at, then give prizes for the winning hands.) There was discussion on the date, and Sunday, date, and Sunday, September 17 was selected. Commissioner Peck noted that there was a Historical Foundation event that afternoon at the Museum, but if the bike ride were done early enough there shouldn't be a problem with the schedule. Commissioners Koepernik and Davis volunteered to serve on a sub-committee to help with planning the event , and to select the heritage resources and the route. III. Old Business A. HPC Meeting Schedule The Commission discussed and agreed on the proposed summer meeting schedule, as follows: Wednesday July 12, 1989 Wednesday August 9, 1989 Meetings will be held at 2-4 p.m. at the Warner Hutton House, and will be primarily devoted to completing the preview list inventory forms. B. Publication of Inventory There was discussion on alternative sources of funding for the Inventory Publication, since the CLG grant was only for $5,000 it was not sure if the HPC was going to accept the money because of the State~s requirement of a revised project scope. The commission directed the Secretary to continue working with the SHPO to see if there were other approaches to the project. If that was not successful, then HPC would consider asking the City Council for additional funding. In the meantime, the Commission will continue working on the preview list forms through the summer. The Commission completed their review of forms #A9 and A10 there was consensus that A10 had been changed too significantly to qualify and should be deleted. IV. ITEMS INITIATED BY THE COMMISSION None. V. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 4:10 p.m. Valerie You~ ~J Secretary t~the (~mmission
