II. ORDINANCE NO. 3-E.12
Emergency Ordinance with the City of Saratoga Defining and Establishing
Hazardess Fire Areas within Said City and Providing for Fire Retardant Roof
Coverings on All Buildings Hereafter Erected or Constructed within Said
Hazardess Fire Areas.
The. City Manager was asked if he had new~staff input concerning the additional
costs to be incurred if the requiremlnts outlined in the Emergency Ordinance were
to be implemented. He indicated that th~ Building Official had reviewed these
costs and arrived at a figure of $600 to $800 per unit for a 2,500 square-foot
structure.
Mr. Ruscigno,~Projects Manager for'Stoneson~Constructiop Corporation, spoke
verifying the figures quoted by the Building Official, and indicated they were
in the ball park. Furthermore, he indicated he had checked with Firemen's Fund
Insurance Company and was advised there ~ould be no fire insurance reduction as
a result of the changes in the building requirements.
Councilman Dwyer raised the question.as ~o whether or not fiberglass bats would
work toserve the same function as fire Eetardant shingles. Chief Carter, repre-
senting the County Fire Marshalt's Office, indicated that he has not seen 'a fire
where fiberglass bats had actually stopped or slowed down a fire.
Mr. Ruscigno further suggested that the Saratoga Oaks be taken out of the hazardem
fire area. He indicated there were 59 units in Unit No. 2, soon under construction,
and he felt these should be eliminated from th~ ha.zardess fire area.
After further discussion, it!was moved b~ Councilman Br,dges apd seconded by
Councilman Diridon that Ordinance No.'3-EL. 12 ~e adopted. 'The motion was approved,
