CONSIDERATION OF STAFF REPORT RE: CHANGE ORDER NO. 3, PROVIDING FOR SHINGLE ROOFING FOR THE SARATOGA COMMUNITY LIBRARY City Manager reported that since the time of the bid-opening for the library project and subsequent approval of the low bid of the shake shingle roofing c~mponent and anticipation'~on~th~ p~rt'~of'th~-architect, as well as the City, that possibly there would be an opportunity to have a shake shingle roof on the library. The contractor was asked for a price to include shake shingle roofing. A net price of $10,131.50 will be forth- coming from the architect. He further provided that implementation of this change order would also require approval of the City Council to adopt a modification of the City ordinance pertaining to fire regulations, as it would require choosing an alternative for fire-proof shake shingles. The alternative had been approved by the County Fire Marshall's Office, and a similiar one approved by the City of Los Altos in construction of their new branch library to provide for the shake shingle roof. Mayor Bridges indicated .he had received a telephone call from Congressmen Mineta's office that the City had been granted a demonstration project in the amount of $81,639 for the solar demonstration program previously applied for. The discussion then centered on whether or not the shake roofing could be cut back in those areas where the solar units would be applied. The City Manager indicated he thought this was possible and would review this proposal with the architect. It was then moved by Councilmen Kraus, seconded by Councilwomen Corr that change order No. 3 be approved not to exceed $10,131.50 to provide for the shake roofing for the library. The City Manager was further directed to talk with the architect to see whether or not this could be reduced by using some other material in those areas which would be covered by the solar collection units in the solar heating demonstration program. The motion carried unanimously. ,~ Page 2 III. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, the meeting was ajeurned. spect bmitted, Rober
