SARATOGA CITY COUNCIL
TIME: Tuesday, March 14, 1978 - 5:15 P.M.
PLACE: Saratoga City Council Chambers, 13777 Fruitvale ~e., Sa[~'t6g~,__calif.
TYPE: Special Meeting
I. ORGANIZATION
The meeting was called to order at 5:18 P.M. The City Clerk
called the roll, as follows:
Present: Councilmen Kraus, Corr, Matteoni
Absent: Councilmen Brigham, Bridges
II. CANVASS OF VOTES, MARCH 7TH MUNICIPAL ELECTION
The City Clerk indicated that 36.8% of the registered voters
in the City of Saratoga voted in the March 7th city election.
As indicated in Exhibit A, Certificate of Election Results7
prepared by the Registrar of Voters Office, the three candidate~
elected were as follows: Linda Callon, Jeffrey Kalb, and
Henry Kraus.
It was moved by Councilman Matteoni and seconded by Councilwoman
Corr to adopt Resolution 846, Canvassing the Vote Held March 7,
1978. The motion was carried unanimously.
III. INSTALLATION OF ELECTED CANDIDATES
Prior to the formal installation of candidates, Councilman Kraus
read a letter he had received from Linda Callon, indicating the
conflict in her current position as Planning Commissioner and
her newly-elected position of City Councilperson. She asked that
her resignatio~ from the Planning Commission be accepted by the
Council.
It was moved by Councilwoman Corr and seconded by Councilman
Matteoni to accept Linda Callon's resignation from the Planning
Commission. The motion was carried unanimously.
The City Clerk then proceeded to administer the Oath of Office
to the three newly-elected City Councilpersons.
IV. RE-ORGANIZATION OF CITY COUNCIL
COuncilwoman Corr recommended to the Council that they follow
City tradition by designating the most senior councilperson to
the mayorship. She placed a nomination in the name of Henry
Kraus for Mayor. The nomination was seconded by Councilman
Matteoni. There being no further discussion, it was moved by
Councilwoman Callon and seconded by Councilman Kalb the nominations
be closed. Therefore, by a unanimous vote of the Council,
Henry Kraus was elected as Mayor.
Councilman Matteoni then nominated Councilwoman Corr for the
office of Vice Mayor. Councilwoman Callon seconded the nomination.
There being no further discussion, it was moved by Councilman
Kalb and seconded by Councilwoman Callon nominations be closed..
The motion was carried, and Councilwoman Corr was elected unahimously
to the office of Vice Mayor.
V. ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Councilman Matteoni and seconded by Councilwoman
Corr the meeting be adjourned. The motion was carried.; the meeting
was adjourned at 5:26 P.M.
