HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-05-1988 City Council Minutes MINUTES SARATOGA CITY COUNCIL TIME: Tuesday, July 5, 1988 PLACE: Community Center, 19655 Allendale Avenue TYPE: Regular Adjourned Meeting Mayor Peterson called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. Roll Call: Anderson, Clevenger, Moyles, Peterson 1. Report of City Clerk on Official Canvass of Ballots from Registrar of Voters The City Clerk presented the official canvass of ballots for the June 7, 1988, Municipal election prepared by George A. Mann, Registrar of Voters of the County of Santa Clara. 2. Resolution 2496 Approving Official Canvass and Results Thereof It was moved by Councilman Moyles, seconded by Vice Mayor Anderson to waive reading in full and adopt Resolution 2496. Motion passed 4-0. Councilman Moyles congratulated Mrs. Clevenger and Dr. Stutzman on their election. He thanked Mayor Peterson for his service as Mayor for the past year and acknowledged the dedication and energy Vice Mayor Anderson has brought to the 'City Council since her election in 1986. Councilman Moyles stated that his three priorities over the next several years would focus on the successful development of Hakone Garden, improving housing opportunities for seniors, specifically at Odd Fellows Plaza and the Paul Masson Property, and the successful development of Highway 85 with all the mitigation measures negotiated by the City. 3. Administration of Oath of Office The City Clerk administered the oath of office to Councilwoman Elect Clevenger and Councilman Elect Stutzman. Councilwoman Clevenger and Councilman Stutzman thanked their many supporters and campaign workers for their assistance in the election. 4. Reorganization of the City Council The City Clerk declared the positions of Mayor and Vice Mayor open and called for nominations for the office of Mayor. Councilwoman Clevenger moved and Councilman Stutzman seconded the nomination of Councilwoman Anderson for Mayor. Councilman Moyles moved the nominations be closed. Councilman Peterson moved to elect Councilwoman Anderson. Motion passed 5-0. 2-7/5/88 Mayor Anderson called for nominations for the office of Vice Mayor. Councilman Stutzman moved and Mayor Anderson seconded the nomination of Councilwoman Clevenger for Vice Mayor. Councilman Moyles moved that the nominations be closed and to elect Councilwoman Clevenger. Motion passed 5-0. Mayor Anderson presented a plaque from the City to outgoing Mayor Peterson in appreciation for his service as the Mayor of Saratoga. Mayor Peterson thanked the members of the Council for the plaque and for honoring him by selecting him to be the Mayor of Saratoga for the past year. Mayor Anderson thanked the members of the Council for electing her Mayor and pledged that she would work on making the City Council better listeners to the problems confronting Saratogans, to be more receptive to the problems being brought to the attention of the City, to continue to work to improve communications with the community, to work on campaign reform to limit outside influences on Saratoga politics, to work to be more creative in dealing with issues and to develop a more collaborative spirit among the Council, the City organization and the community. 5.
