HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-28-1989 City Council Minutes MINUTE8 SARATOGA CITY COUNCIL TIME: Tuesday, November 28, 1989 - 7:30 p.m. PLACE: Community Center Multipurpose Room, 19655 Allendale Ave. TYPE: Adjourned Regular Meeting 1. Roll Call The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. Councilmembers Moyles, Peterson, Stutzman and Mayor Clevenger were present. Councilmember Anderson was absent. Also present: City Attorney Hal Toppel; Chief Building Inspector Oncay; Saratoga Fire District Chief Ernie Kraule; Central Fire District Chief Douglas Sporleder; Public Safety Commission Chair Brett Borah. 2. Discussion of Ordinance amending Uniform Building code to adopt minimum Class C roof covering for all residential buildings without height, size, occupancy or setback exceptions Chief Building Inspector Oncay reviewed ordinance and showed slides of hazardous fire area in Saratoga. He also explained the classes of fire retardancy as applied to roofing materials. Harry Abney spoke as a representative of the shake and shingle industry. He provided statistics on numbers of wood roofs and cost of replacement roofing. Members of the public, including Patrick Sang; Jeffrey Johns, representing the Saratoga-Los Gatos Board of Realtors; William Wolfe; Bob Burns; Cheryl Abbott; Bob Spiker; Frank Leader; Tom Campbell; and Elizabeth Bridgeman raised various questions on the proposed ordinance. The fire chiefs, Public Safety Commission Chair, City Attorney, and Chief Building Inspector responded. The Council took no action. Mayor Clevenger explained how the ordinance had come into being and why it was inappropriate to place it on the ballot. She noted that there would be a public hearing on the ordinance at the regular Council meeting of December 6. 3. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Grace E.
