SARATOGA CITY COUNCIL
TIME: Tuesday, March 22, 1994

Preservation Commission
Interviews with applicants for Library Commission - 6:1~0 p.m.
Councilmembers Present: Anderson, Burger, Monia, Kohler, and Mayor
Tucker.
Staff Members Present: City Manager Peacock
The interviews were conducted according to the foliowine schedule:
Patty Bush - 6:35; Carol Gilbert - 6:45; Napoleon Mason 6:55; Samuel
Mitchell - 7:05; Edward Sessler - 7:15.

1. Roll Call
Heritage Preservation Commissioners Present: Ansnes, avis, Dutro,
Koepernik, Peck, Peepari.
Staff Members Present: Associate Planner White
2. Report of City Clerk on Posting of Agenda
Pursuant to Government Code 54954.2, the agenda for th2 meeting was
properly posted on March 18. The notice of adjournment f~Dm the March
16 Council meeting was properly posted on March 17.
3. Budget
A. Conference attendance/CLG certification am continuing
education
Preservation Foundation Conference in Sacramento in May - at least one
member must attend to retain certification. The City Manager reported
that the Commission has $900 in the budget to spend for conferences.
A request, with costs, needs to be approved by Council. Get to City
Clerk by March 31.
B. Replanting of the Heritage Orchard
The cost of the replanting will be $10,000 to $12,000. Tken it must be
kept up each year by budgeting $2,000 each future year to keep up
planting (50 trees per year). Staff is to see if grant funds are
available to assist.
C. Construction and installation of signs for the ]eritage Lane
Design proposal passed out by Commissioner Peepari. Install two signs,
one at each end of the lane. Bids were $821, plus $500 f)r materials;
installation would be by Commissioner Koepernik. Jerry 2(ocir offered
to provide wood and will discuss with Commissioner Koepernik.
MONIA/ANDERSON MOVED TO WORK WITH STAFF FOR REPORT ON COST ETC. AT
4/20/94 MEETING FOR 94-95 BUDGET. Passed 5-0.
4. Education and Community Outreach
A. Cooperative projects with the Historical Found~tion
B. Heritage Book sales
Of 500-copy printing, 120 books have been sold. Will start more active
promotion. Books are now for sale at Saratoga Book Store and Cupertino
Historic Museum. An inquiry from Kelly Park has been re~:eived.
5. Heritage Designation Studies

A. Heritage Lane Inventory
Plan to work on the inventory this year as one major pro ect.
B. Historic District Study
Begin to look at the Village as to qualifications for de ignation.
Councilmember Monia suggested doing a Heritage Video thrcugh KSAR. He
asked if the Browley barn has any historic significance. The
Commission doesn't feel so because it has become so altered.
Councilmember Kohler suggested looking at creating a local scenic
drive, Pierce Road, for example.
Need to pursue insurance coverage for tours again with A .AG.
6. Appointment of Library Commissioner
BURGER/KOHLER MOVED TO APPOINT EDWARD SESSLER. Passed 5 0.
7. Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
