EXECUTIVE SUMMARY NO.
AGENDA ITEM
MEETING DATE: OCTOBER 6, 1999
CITY MANAGER:
ORIGINATING DEPT.: CITY MANAGER
DEPT. HEAD:
SUBJECT: Resolution expressing support for the Vasona Corridor Winchester Extension
RECOMMENDED MOTION(S):
Move to adopt the Resolution.
REPORT SUMMARY:
The attached resolution is yet another expression of support for the extension of the Vasona
Corridor light rail line to the Winchester Boulevard station beyond the terminus in downtown
Campbell as presently envisioned in the Measure A/B Program. Although the City Council has
previously gone on record as favoring the Winchester Extension, it is recommended that it do so
again at this time since the VTA Board will be voting on the final design at their meeting on
October 7.
The West Valley cities unanimously support the Winchester Extension as it will provide a far
better opportunity to access the light rail system than the downtown Campbell terminus.
Additionally, it would bring the Vasona rail line that much closer to its ultimate terminus at the
Vasona Junction near Highway 85. The City of Campbell has recently gone on record as
indicating a willingness to share in both the final design and construction costs associated with the
Winchester Extension through their Redevelopment Agency and they have requested additional
Resolutions of Support which they can present to the VTA Board at its meeting. For these
reasons, it is recommended that the Council adopt the attached Resolution.
FISCAL IMPACTS:
None as a result of adopting the Resolution.
ADVERTISING, NOTICING AND PUBLIC CONTACT:
Nothing additional.
CONSEQUENCES OF NOT ACTING ON RECOMMENDED MOTION(S):
The Resolution will not be adopted.
FOLLOW UP ACTIONS:
A copy of the Resolution will be forwarded to the City of Campbell.
