HEAD: SUBJECT: Possible locations for a memorial tree for the late Mayor Shaw RECOMMENDED MOTION(S): Consider the alternative locations for planting a memorial tree and select one. REPORT SUMMARY: The attached memo from the Acting Public Works Director identifies ten candidate locations where a memorial tree in honor of the late Mayor Shaw could be planted. The first five locations are on the Civic Center grounds, while the second five locations are on other city-owned properties. Each location has been spotted in the field with a blue flag for ease of identification. In addition, Councilmember Waltonsmith has suggested four other locations that are described in the attached copy of her e-mail message to me. Prior to your meeting, the Council should review the suggested locations in anticipation of selecting one at your meeting. Afterwards, staff will make arrangements for the purchase, delivery, and planting of the tree, along with the unveiling of a memorial plaque, which ! assume the Council would want arranged in appropriate ceremonial fashion. FISCAL IMPACTS: The exact cost of the tree and plaque is uncertain at this time given that donations will be forthcoming. However a 36-inch box sized Oak with an appropriate plaque is estimated to cost $750. ADVERTISING, NOTICING AND PUBLIC CONTACT: Nothing additional. CONSEQUENCES OF NOT ACTING ON RECOMMENDED MOTION(S): A location would not be selected and staff would follow whatever other direction the Council might give. FOLLOW UP ACTIONS: The tree and plaque will be ordered and arrangements for their installation will be made. ATTACHMENTS: 1. Memo from Acting Public Works Director. 2.
