TRAILS ACTION MATRIX
I. REGULAR MAINTENANCE
Most trails are checked twice yearly and basic maintenance is performed if needed. Usually includes clearing debris off
trail and clearing overgrowth and undergrowth away from trail.
II. SPECIAL MAINTENANCE
Typically includes projects such as re- grading an eroded trail, repaving, fixing bridges, removing root damage. Sometimes
special design work is required. Asphalt or concrete work is usually small and therefore not scheduled separately but
rather added to a larger project that the city may have underway.
III. CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS
Significant trail repair or development requiring CIP funding.
IV. WATCHLIST
This section is for additional items that that Trails Subcommittee may want to track which don't fall easily into one of the
above categories.
TERMS USED
APN: Assessor's Parcel Number
TRAIL SEGMENT: Identified per the 1991 Parks and Trails Master Plan
BRUSHING: Means to clear brush away from a trail
CCC: The California Conservation Corps
CIP: Capital Improvement Project
The Trails Action Matrix is maintained by the Trails Subcommittee of the Parks and Recreation Commission. It is
considered a "living document" and is reviewed on approximately a quarterly basis with the Saratoga Public
Works Department and with the PRC.
