_________________________________________________________________ SUBJECT: Awards of various construction contracts _________________________________________________________________
At your meeting, staff will present reports and recommendations concerning the award of three separate constuction contracts. They are: 1. The Street Maintenance (slurry seal) program.
2. The Pavement Management (pavement overlay) Program. 3. The Pierce Road Bridge Replacement (Capital Project No. 953). Bids for the Street Maintenance Program were opened on September
21. Bids for the Pavement Management Program were opened on September 27, and bids for the Pierce Road Bridge were opened on September 28. Because of my absence from the office during
the week of September 25th, and the need to carefully canvass all of the bids, it is not possible to prepare the reports with recommendations for your agenda packet. However, it is necessary
to have these items on your agenda next Wednesday for award since the end of the current construction season is nearing. As is particularly the case with the Pierce Road Bridge, the
construction contract for each project must be awarded without delay if the work is to be completed before the onset of inclement weather. For each item at your meeting, I will present
recommendations for declaring the lowest responsible bidder, for awarding a construction contract of a specified amount, and for authorizing changes to awarded contracts up to a specified
amount. If the Council approves the various recommendations, work on each project will begin the week of October 9.
