HomeMy WebLinkAbout101-Staff Report.pdf SARATOGA CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: April 20, 2011 AGENDA ITEM: DEPARTMENT: City Manager’s Office CITY MANAGER: Dave Anderson PREPARED BY:Ann Sullivan, City Clerk DIRECTOR: Dave Anderson SUBJECT: Consideration to Cancel July 20, 2011 Regular Council Meeting for Summer Recess RECOMMENDED ACTION: Accept report and direct staff accordingly regarding the July 20, 2011 Council meeting. REPORT SUMMARY: At the February 16, 2011 Council meeting staff presented Council with several options regarding their annual summer recess which included: 1. Cancel the second meeting in July – July 20, 2011. 2. Cancel the first meeting in August – August 3, 2011. 3. Cancel the second meeting in July and the first meeting in August – July 20th and August 3, 2011. At that meeting Council voted to cancel the August 3, 2011 Council meeting and directed staff to bring this item back at a later date for Council’s consideration to also cancel the July 20th meeting. To date, the only agendized items scheduled for the July 20th meeting are two routine consent calendar items – Approval of July 6, 2011 council meeting minutes and approval of the check register; these two items can easily be moved to the August 17, 2011 Regular Council meeting for Council’s review and approval. If necessary, a special meeting can be called to address any items of importance that may arise during the scheduled summer recess. Staff will make every effort to get any necessary actions ready for the first meeting in July. Staff is asking Council to make a decision regarding the July 20, 2011, Regular Council meeting and whether or not Council would like to cancel this meeting for their annual summer recess. FISCAL IMPACTS: N/A CONSEQUENCES OF NOT FOLLOWING RECOMMENDED ACTION: The 2011 Council meeting schedule will remain as it is now without any changes. ALTERNATIVE ACTION: N/A FOLLOW UP ACTION: If Council chooses to cancel the July 20, 2011 City Council meeting, the City Clerk will update the 2011Council Meeting calendar reflecting the cancellation of said meeting and post an agenda on the City website and kiosk in July noting the meeting has been cancelled. ADVERTISING, NOTICING AND PUBLIC CONTACT: Pursuant to Government Code 54954.2, this item was properly posted as a City Council agenda item and was included in the packet made available on the City’s web site in advance of the meeting.
