BACKGROUND: This summer, the Parks and Recreation Commission challenged the community to exercise and take advantage of City parks and trails through the MOVE-IT Saratoga program. The Commission asked the public to either walk/run a marathon (26 miles) or bike a century (100 miles) in Saratoga between Memorial Day and Labor Day. A total of 34 people signed up for the challenge. The Commission presented plans for MOVE-IT Saratoga to the Council during its joint meeting with the Council in February. MOVE-IT Saratoga is part of the Commission’s effort to encourage a healthy lifestyle through Saratoga’s parks and recreation. Parks and Recreation Commission Vice Chair Denise Goldberg will be present at the September 15, 2010 to assist the City Council with presentation of the certificates of completion. FISCAL IMPACTS: There are no financial impacts to the City of Saratoga as a consequence of the MOVE-IT Saratoga program. ADVERTISING, NOTICING AND PUBLIC CONTACT: Pursuant to Government Code 54954.2, this item was properly posted as a City Council agenda item and was included in the packet made available on the City’s web site in advance of the meeting.
