This is still very rough but does give the data we need to begin conversations. The challenge I will have is explaining the statistics. I have also attached a spreadsheet with the results that I will use as a handout for tomorrow night. Also attached, is a complete listing of all the comments received from the survey. Please let me know if you have any questions or need any information. Thanks! Visioning Process Survey Following the November Council meeting, staff developed a survey of 11 questions to gather data and help determine public interest in the future development of the North Campus. The survey was not a scientific tool but rather was a general method to collect information. Survey respondents were asked general demographic questions and to identify what they would like to see at the North Campus and how they would like to finance the improvements. The survey was posted on the City website and was made available in paper form at the Community Center front desk, at the Senior Center, and City Hall. An e -mail invitation was distributed to previous recreation program participants. Of the 1,884 participants that received the e -mail invitation, 673 users opened the e-mail, 195 directly responded by clicking on the survey link, and 3 users forwarded the e- mail to others. A total of 490 online surveys were submitted. Fourteen paper survey responses were received. To read the data provided from the survey, the number of responses is simply the total quantity of people that selected that item (higher is better) while the rating score provides information on how a category ranked (a low number is better). To summarize the survey results, 434 (88 %) of the respondents claimed to be Saratoga residents, 375 (77 %) claimed to have lived in their present home for over five years, 438 (89 %) stated they lived 5 miles or less from the site, and 380 (78 %) reported that three or more people lived in their home. Responses were reportedly split 206 (42 %) male, 254 (51 %) female, and 411 (84 %) were between the ages of 35 and 64. Of the nine options listed on the survey, the most desired improvement was a gymnasium with 335 responses, closely followed by a recreation center (339 responses) and a multi - purpose room (332 responses). Due to the one - through -four ranking asked for, a gymnasium received a rating score of 1.7 (most desired) while a recreation center and a multi - purpose room tied with a rating score of 2.3. At the bottom of the rating scale was a museum (3.2), behind a tie between a cultural center (2.7), child development center (2.7), and an arts center (2.6). 206 (42 %) of the respondents would like to see improvements made to the North Campus within one 4/21/2008 Page 2 of 2 year, 184 (37 %) in one to two years, and 76 (9 %) in more than three years. In regard to funding the improvements, 427 people chose donations and grants for a rating score of 1.7, while only 289 people selected a tax increase (rating score of 3.4). Generally, people expressed little interest in contributing to the North Campus improvements (103 or 21% yes responses) or serving on a revenue generating committee (only 20 or 4% yes responses).
