Google, the search company located in MView, is trying to get into Broadband internet connection and this internet connection is going to be at speeds of 10OX the existing connections and possibly enable other services. They are requesting for an RFI from city governments and these RFls should be sent in by March. Enclosed is a link to the website that shows more details of the proposal from Google. 1',Ittp://www.goo,gle.coi-n/M]2serve/fiberrfi I feel that the City of Saratoga will benefit from this internet connection and would like to request that you and the city council look at this and make a decision if this will help the city and at what cost. If we could get Google's interest, the Google project would represent a huge win for our residents, and would push up the speeds of our Internet access 20 fold, with even greater gains in reliability by using fiber optic cabling straight to the home. Google should consider Saratoga because of its proximity to the Google campus, which would greatly improve the logistics for them in getting Google employees to participate in the project - before during and after buildout of the fiber network. Saratoga's higher than average incomes should also improve the participation rates in the network once it is built out. I would like to request that the City of Saratoga formally nominate itself to participate in this network, and Google's government response form starts from this page: httL)://www.google.com/appserve/fibel-rfi/publicZoptions Will Estes U.S. Computer Phone: 408- 617 -0560, x283 FAX: 4o8- 516 -9987 mailto:westesPuschw.com (E -mail Only; Do Not Add to Lists Please) POB 3150, Saratoga, CA 95070 -1150 For Your Mailing Lists: mailto:rfq(&earthbroadcast.com (Use for Requests for Quotes) mailto :offersnearthbroadcast.com (Use for Anything You Are Selling) City Clerk [Ann Sullivan] From: Debbie Bretschneider Sent: Wednesday, February 17, 2010 11:41 AM To: City Clerk [Ann Sullivan] Subject: FW: Saratoga as Google High -Speed Internet Test City From: Ben Connors [mailto:ben @benconnors.com] Sent: Wednesday, February 17, 2010 10:47 AM To: Debbie Bretschneider Subject: Saratoga as Google High -Speed Internet Test City Hi Debbie, I would like to encourage Saratoga to become a test city for Google's new high -speed internet network 1-ittD://n hiladelDhia. bizioumals .com /phllade]pbia/bio. s /tecllriology /201.0 /02 /;oogle recruiting municipalities to test ultra - high -speed broadband.html I am a resident, and I believe that this could be a great benefit for Saratoga.
