Re: Agenda Item #12. Adoption of.the General Plan's Circulation and Scenic Highway
Element and conforming amendment to the Open Space and Conservation Element trails
map.
Dear Mayor King and Members of the Council:
I have reviewed the Trails Map included in the amendment to the Open Space and
Conservation Element and noted what appears to be an inadvertent *mistake. Trail
Segment 10, which is a short trail leading from Mt. Eden Road in an uphill westerly
direction from just North of the northerly Damon Lane/Mt. Eden Road intersection, is
shown by a dotted green line as a "Proposed Trail ". It is in fact and existing and
improved trail and should be therefore shown as a solid green line. I am aware of this as I
was involved in the discussions related to the parcel map application splitting the
property along the North side of which Segment 10 runs into two lots some years ago,
and supported the requirement of the inclusion of that trail into the City's trail plan
because it preserved the future potential of a link extending westward from the end of
Segment 10 up to the ridge above to a future trail along the ridge line from Stevens Creek
County Park in a southwesterly direction through the Paul Masson Winery property and
ultimately connecting to the Saratoga to the Sea Trail and Sanborn- Skyline County Park.
This future link is designated on the City's Trail Master Plan as Segment 50. I encourage
you to direct Staff to correct this inadvertent mislabeling and to correct the map to
accomplish this.
I have expressed this desire both to Staff and to the Pedestrian, Equestrian and
Bicycle Trail Advisory Committee and believe that both acknowledge this and support
the correction of the map, whether it is done at this time or at some point in the near
future.
Thank you for your consideration of this request.
