BACKGROUND: There are approximately 22.5 million Americans over the age of 12 that currently suffer from a substance use disorder and 45.1 million adults in the U.S. living with a mental health problem. Research has shown that both substance use and mental health disorders are treatable and people can recover from these conditions. For the past 22 years, local governments around the nation have recognized September as Recovery Month to raise awareness of substance use and mental health problems and the treatment options available for those suffering with these disorders. Gabrielle Antolovich, Executive Director of Voices United, will be accepting the proclamation. FISCAL IMPACTS: N/A CONSEQUENCES OF NOT FOLLOWING THE RECOMMENDED ACTIONS: The proclamation would not be presented and September 2011 would not be declared as Recovery Month in the City of Saratoga. ALTERNATIVE ACTION(S): N/A FOLLOW UP ACTION(S): Implement Council direction. A copy of the agenda packet is also made available at the Saratoga Branch Library each Monday in advance of the Council meeting.
