Dear Mayor and Council Members;
September 25, 1974
cze
At the request of our Planning Director, Marty
Van Duyn, I am writing to inform you that I have formed
a Citizens Committee to study and help prepare an Historic
Preservation Ordinance for the City of Saratoga.
It is our express interest to work directly with
the City Planning Department, helping to supply the infor-
mation they will need and researching ordinances from other
cities, including our new Santa Clara County Ordinance No.
NS- 1200.103, approved August 28, 1974, which allows the
Board of Supervisors to establish Historic Districts.
The enthusiasm among historians for this parti-
cular approach to preservation is well understood, but it
may surprise you to know that many other residents of
Saratoga are interested in preserving the "character" of
our city and favor this type of development control and
demolition prevention.
Our Citizens Committee includes Kevil Smith,
Warren B. Heid, Willys Peck, Miles Rankin, with assistance
from Don Burt and Marty Van Duyn.
We will prepare a presentation for your consider-
ation as soon as possible. If you have recommendations
or questions, please contact one of us soon.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Robe t Swanson
