MINUTES

1. Routine Organization
a. Roll Call
i. Present: Cappello, Conrado, Marchetti, Schuck, Shah
ii. Absent: Nugent, Marra
iii. Staff: Cindy McCormick
b. Approval of minutes from May 14, 2013 meeting.Approved 5-0, 2 absent
c. Oral & Written Communication - Any member of the public may address the
Commission about any matter not on the agenda for this meeting for up to three minutes.
Commissioners may not comment on the matter but may choose to place the topic on a
future agenda.
d. HPC direction to staff regarding Oral Communications—
2. New Business
a. Sam Cloud Barn. The Commission indicated that a Mills Act application and/or any
changes to the structure would need to come back to the HPC for review.
b. John Henry House. Tabled until July meeting when Commissioner Nugent will be
present
c. Quarry Park Project Liaison. Tabled until July meeting when Commissioner Nugent
will be present
d. Saratoga Historical Foundation newsletter. Tabled until July meeting when
Commissioner Nugent will be present
e. HPC Training. Tabled until July meeting when Commissioner Nugent will be present
f. Heritage Inventory Update.
i. 19908 Bella Vista — known as the "Blaney Estate Guest House". The number 9 in
the address was the favorite number of the owner. The two-story home has a tile
roof and large eaves. Commissioner Conrado is going to ask the owner for pictures
of the home to determine its architectural style.
ii. 13685 Saratoga Vista Avenue. A name was not chosen but should be at the next
meeting. The architectural style is "modern".
iii. 13514 Hammons Avenue. A name was not chosen but should be at the next
meeting. The architectural style is "California adobe"
iv. 20365 Williams Avenue. Tabled until next meeting
v. 20200 Mendelsohn Lane. A name was not chosen but should be at the next
meeting The architectural style is "Spanish Revival".
vi. 13685 Saratoga Vista Avenue. Tabled until next meeting
Given that two Commissioners were absent and some of the homes had not yet been

photographed, this item was continued until July 9
3. Old Business
a. none
4. Action Items—
a. Commission: The Inventory needs to be updated to reflect the address change for the
heritage home ("Spinazze house") located at "19220 Citrus Lane". The address (19220
Saratoga-Los Gatos Road)was changed by the owner.
b. Staff: Staff reported that 16 Heritage Trees have been scheduled for the June 19th City
Council meeting. However, the City Arborist determined that four of the six London
plane trees did not meet all of the criteria. Commissioner Conrado indicated that the six
trees were significant due to their quantity. The Commission questioned if the Arborist
had to approve the trees or not. [issue to be discussed at July 9 meeting under old
business]
c. Staff. Bring "A Field Guide of American Houses" to the next HPC meeting for
discussion of architectural styles.
d. Commission: Research County records/tax rolls and Historical Foundation records for
original owner of the 10 latest homes added to the Heritage Resource Inventory.
e. Commission: Take photos of five homes added to the Inventory for discussion of
architectural style to be annotated on the Heritage Resource Inventory.
S. Commissioner Comments—
a. Commissioner Shah suggested that 21164 Tollgate Road be added to the inventory. The
Commission indicated that the item should be put on the August agenda and that
Commissioner Shah should come back with pictures, and the name, architectural style,
and criteria for adding the home to the inventory.
b. Commissioner Shah suggested that redwood trees on Tollgate road and an Oak tree on
Mendelsohn Lane be added to the Heritage tree inventory. The owners will need to
complete and sign an application.
