Type: Regular Meeting Place: City Hall/Administrative Conference Room- 13777 Fruitvale Avenue 1. Routine Organization a. Roll Call i. Present: Cappello, Conrado, Marchetti, Marra,Nugent, Shah ii. Absent: Schuck iii. Staff: Cindy McCormick b. Review of minutes from August 13, 2013 meeting. Approved as amended 5-0 (1 absent, 1 abstained) c. Oral Communication - Any member of the public may address the Commission about any matter not on the agenda for this meeting for up to three minutes. Dr Rol Chapman would like to see photos of the heritage trees on the city's website. Annette Stransky asked if the homes located at 14475 Oak Street and 14421 Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road were on the inventory. The HPC determined that both of these homes are on the inventory. d. HPC direction to staff regarding non-agendized oral communications - Commissioners may not comment on the matter but may choose to place the topic on a future agenda. None 2. New Business a. Mills Act Application — 14065 Saratoga Avenue. The applicant/owner will remove the brick from the renovation plan. The owner would like to use "Kobe" aluminum and wood clad windows as opposed to wood due to potential deterioration of wood. The HPC would like to see a photo/brochure of the windows, especially in front of house. Application approved 5-1-1 with Shah objecting and Schuck absent. b. HPC Outreach — City staff, Brian Babcock, will add photos of heritage trees to Facebook. Brian will also look into putting information on "NextDoor" social media site. The HPC also asked Brian to consider interviewing the heritage tree owners, highlighting the HPC in the City's quarterly newsletter, writing an article for "The Patch", writing an article for"Saratoga News", providing information about the Commission to the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce, highlighting the recent Mills Act application going before the City Council, and adding the "Tree City USA" logo to the city's website. c. Saratoga Historical Foundation Newsletter— The HPC generally liked the draft article but wanted clarifying language regarding the `interview' that led to the article. 3. Old Business a. HPC Role and Process for Listed Structures—The HPC would like to discuss this topic at the January 2014 City Council joint session. b. 21164 Tollgate Road. Commissioner Shah presented pictures of the home, indicating its architectural style is "French Provincial" and that she felt the home met heritage resource criteria C for its distinctive style. No construction date or owner information was provided. An application has not been submitted. c. Heritage Inventory Update.No discussion, tabled until next meeting. d. Website: no discussion 4.
