HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 15-022 - Authoring Participation in Community Choice Energy South Bay Technical Feasibility StudyRESOLUTION NO. 15-022 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SARATOGA AUTHORIZING PARTICIPATION IN THE COMMUNITY CHOICE ENERGY SOUTH BAY TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY STUDY WHEREAS, the cities of Sunnyvale, Cupertino, Mountain View, and County of Santa Clara have identified Community Choice Aggregation as a promising strategy for meeting local clean energy goals and greenhouse gas reduction targets and have invited other cities in the County to participate in a study to assess the feasibility of introducing Community Choice Aggregation in Santa Clara County; and WHEREAS, Community Choice Aggregation is a mechanism by which local governments assume responsibility for providing electrical power for residential and commercial customers in their jurisdiction in partnership with private utility companies; and WHEREAS, determining technical feasibility and public support requires the analysis of energy load data from Pacific Gas & Electric Company and a focused stakeholder education and outreach effort; and WHEREAS, by adoption of this resolution, the City of Saratoga indicates its desire to participate in the Technical Feasibility phase of Community Choice Aggregation in partnership with the Cities of Sunnyvale, Cupertino, Mountain View and the unincorporated County without obligation of the expenditure of General Funds unless otherwise authorized by the City Council; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Saratoga does hereby authorize the City Manager to execute the appropriate documents to allow the City of Sunnyvale and/or its technical consultants to request energy usage/load data from Pacific Gas & Electric Company so that it may be analyzed as part of a sub -regional Community Choice Aggregation technical study. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that adoption of this resolution in no way binds or otherwise obligates the City of Saratoga to participate in Community Choice Aggregation, unless the City Council so chooses by passage of an ordinance at a later time. The above and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the Saratoga City Council held on the 15th day of April 2015 by the following vote: AYES: Mayor Howard A.
