ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Meeting Minutes
DATE: Tuesday, January 20, 2015
TIME: 4:00 pm
LOCATION: City of Saratoga Planning Conference Room, 13777 Fruitvale Avenue,
Saratoga, CA 95070
1. Call to Order: Meeting called to order by the Chair at 4:00pm
2. Roll Call: Present: Stallman, Cosyn, Swan, Waltonsmith; City liaison Harvancik
3. Report on Posting of the Agenda: So done
4. Accept Agenda Items and Order: No change
5. Approval of Minutes: Minutes for October 21, 2014 meeting approved
6. Oral and Written Communication: Email was received from W. Brooks reporting
on his discussion with County Parks regarding the trail skirting the County Parks
Archery Range.
7. Old Business:
Garrod properties trails
Jan Garrod reported on his work building the trail across his property and
it’s connections to Mt. Eden Road. He is in the process of getting permission
from the Parker Ranch property owners association for a trail segment
connecting to the Mid Peninsula ridge trail connecting to Fremont Older
from his property. A site visit was scheduled for the following day to review
the progress.
Countywide Trails Master Plan – review draft documents
Committee members found the Plan to be comprehensively complete and well
done.
Blue Hills School Safety Crossing update (reconnect Saratoga)
Negotiations continue with UP RR..
Quarry Park Master Plan/Phase 1
Design is underway for the lower portion and the picnic areas along with
several trails including the one to the vista lookout.
Highway 9 Safety Improvements – next phase
Preliminary designs were reviewed for the intersection at Quito.
8. Staff Report
Upcoming events:
All day Council Retreat on January 23, 2015 is open to the public.
Pending trails updates:
• Pet Stations have been installed for Joe’s Trail, San Marcos, and
Carnelian Glen trails.
• Incorrect (parallel plate) drain grates for the Saratoga Avenue new bus
stop by the Fire Station are being replaced with the proper ones that were
specified by the City originally – this being done to correct a possible
bike wheel trap hazard if the existing grates ever got replaced upside
down after maintenance operations.
• Bike racks are being re-installed at Blaney Plaza now that the
construction work there is being completed.
9. New Business
Discuss Prospect Road Improvements – pedestrian path: Path on south side
connecting Miller to the sidewalk at Christa McAuliffe School will be part of the
street scape beautification project.
10. Reports
Member reports: The Chair presented information from the recent VTA BPAC
meeting including bus service levels with discussion regarding the effect on Saratoga.
11. Action Item Summary
Traffic Safety Commission may want to receive the County Roads presentation
