B. DISCUSSION OF BIKE SAFETY & PATH RECOMMENDATION TO CITY
COUNCIL IN LIGHT 07 RECENT VISIT BY COUNTY SAFETY COORDINATOR
Greg Moeller of the Public Works Department explained that there
is no. existinE bicy(,Ai system in Saratoga. The Public Works Dept
did a feasibility study in 1972, Among the recommendations was
one for removal of some street pqrVing which caused considerable
concern among nitizens. As a result, the Mayor appointed a .
citizens' committee to study the problem. This study recommended
more paths and totnake the arlsting pedestrian path; also .bicycle
paths. Beclust of the cost involved, the City Council has .decided
to implement` Khe plan in. several_ phases. The first public hearing
on the propased plan will be February 20th. The Commission could
critique' the proposal and make comments at that time.
Commissioner Hammach asked .about the problem with the wall along
SArAt9ga-Los"Gatos load at Aloha Avenve.
Mr. Moeller answered that the laqd has been condemned and the
walkway will go along. the top of the wall. A minimal amount of
the wall most` be removed. to provide adequate tight-distance froi,,i
Aloha Avenue.
With regard to equestrian traila, Commissioner-McLeod repoqte? #hRt
the Saratoga EquestniAn AssViation .is involAd in raising money
for trails, hoping to be able to bombinb equehrian, pedestrian
and bicycle trqils, She also reported that clean -up work . has been
coordinated for horse trQlQ by this group.
This item was continued to the next Meeting.
C. APPROVAL OF REVISED LETTER TO SCHOOLS ON LIAISON REQUEST.
Chairman Weiss read the revisions, and the Commission accented the
letter unanimously.
D_ APPROVAL OF BY-LAW CHANGE 01 MANDATORY ATTENDANCE FOR I.OMMISSIONERS
The Commission accepted the by -lade change regarding attendance,
inserting the stipulation that a commissioner is subject to removal
after having missed two consecutive meetings without valid reason.
III. ' NEW BUSINESS
A. APPROVAL OF. TEMPORARY REPLACEMENTS FOR COMMISSIONERS HILSENRATH
AND HAMMACK.
Commissioner Hilsenrath introduced Mark Randazzo a senior at
Saratoga High School as his replacement.
Commissioner Hammack introduced Nick Qyhan, a junior at .Saratoga
High School and editor of the school paper.
It was moved and seconded that Mirk Randazzo and Nick Kayhan be
accepted to temporarily replace Commissioners Hilsenrath and
Hammack. The Commission voted unanimo#sly to accept them.
C01missioners Hammack and Hilsenrath asked to be forwarded the
minutes of the Commission during their absence._�
