SARATOGA_YOUTH COMMISSION - DECEMBER 10, 1973 - MINUTES - continued
It was moved and unanimously approved byi -the Commission to
recommend the City Council that the by -laws of the Youth
Commission be amended to make a commissioner susceptible to
removal from the Commission if, for no valid reason, he has
not attended three consecutive meetings.
E..; NEWS COLUMN SCHEDULE.
The Secretary reported that the dates left unassigned at the
last meeting were not ever filled, and suggested that if the
Commission wishes to continue the news.column, dates be
established for January and February.
The Commissioners agreed to the following:
January
9th
- Commissioner
Fischer
January
16th
- Commissioner
Wright
January
23rd -
Commissioners
Smith & Weiss
January
30th -
Commissioner
Hilsenrath
February
6th -
Commissioner
Hammack
Commissioner Wright said that he would like to write about
a beautiful trail area which happens to be San Jose Water
Works Property. The Commission felt that an investigation
to find out if the public can use the property should be
made, and if not, a recommendation to the City Council should
be written requesting them to look into the possibility of
opening this property to the public.

A. C01✓211ISSIONER HILSENRATH -- DISCUSSION OF THE STATE YOUTH
COALITION FORMATION.
Commissioner Hilsenrath reported that the meeting in Fresno
that had been planned to discuss this has been cancelled due
to lack of organization. He proposed several ways in which
this Commission can become more involved in the establishment
of a State Youth Coalition. They are: 1) write a letter to.
the Governor asking him for information on the status of the
coalition and inviting him to send a representative to discuss
this matter; 2) send a representative to him to discuss it;
3) invite leading gubernitorial candidates to discuss it; and
4) publicize the youth coalition as much as possible through
the newspapers and television.
Commissioner Fischer suggested writing a letter first, acid
request an appointment with the Governor in the letter.
Commissioner Hilsenrath moved, and Commissioner Hammack
seconded that a letter be sent to Governor Reagan requesting
the following information:
1. What is the current status of the Youth Coalition;
2. What the Saratoga Youth Commission can do to assist
in establishing the Coalition; and
3. How to get an appointment with the Governor to discuss
it.
The motion was passed. unanimously.
