HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 12-028 Authorizing Execution of 2011 EMPG AgreementRESOLUTION NO. 12-028 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SARATOGA AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF THE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE COUNTY OF SANTA CLARA AND THE CITY OF SARATOGA GRANTING PROGRAM FUNDS FOR THE 2011 EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT PERFORMANCE GRANT WHEREAS, the Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) is one of several Homeland Security grants issued by Congress in the last decade; and WHEREAS, the grant program is overseen by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and is intended to help states, local, tribal, and territorial governments in preparing for all hazards; and WHEREAS, in January 2012, the California Emergency Management Agency awarded $458,807 in 2011 EMPG funds to Santa Clara County for the purpose of emergency planning; and WHEREAS, Santa Clara County divided its EMPG funds among Santa Clara County cities pursuant to the State of California formula for each city; and WHEREAS, Saratoga is eligible to receive a grant of $9,703.84 and the grant requires a 50% match; and WHEREAS, the County will reimburse the City of Saratoga for funds used under the 2011 EMPG; and WHEREAS, with the 2011 EMPG funds, the City will acquire storage space for emergency supplies on the east side of Highway 85 and purchase additional medical supplies to be used during a disaster response by City employees, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers, and Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) volunteers. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Saratoga does hereby authorize the City Manager to execute the agreement between the County of Santa Clara and the City of Saratoga granting program funds for the 2011 Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) to the City of Saratoga.
