Call to Order: 7:00
Roll Call: Agrawal, Chang, Gupta, Khare, Lee, Lin, Pandya, Smith, Sreedhara, Wang,
Vijay.
Report on Posting of the Agenda: Pursuant to Government Code Section 54954.2, this
meeting was properly posted on September 7, 2013.
Accept Agenda Items: No additional items may be added pursuant to Government Code Section
54954.2.
Recommended action:
Approval of September 7 minutes: AGRAWAL, PANDYA MOVED TO APPROVE CITY
COUNCIL MINUTES FOR YOUTH COMMISSION TRAINING MEETING ON
SEPTEMBER 7, 2013. Motion passed. Ayes: Agrawal, Chang, Gupta, Khare, Lee, Lin,
Pandya, Smith, Sreedhara, Wang, Vijay. Noes: none. Absent: None. Abstain: None.
Oral & Written Communication: Any member of the public may address the Commission about
any matter not on the agenda for this meeting for up three minutes. Commissioners may not
comment on the matter, but may choose to place the topic on a future agenda.

I. Review of 2013 Saratoga Youth Commission Training
-effective in readying the commission for the upcoming year
-good bonding experience
-did not get to brainstorming
II. Newly Elected Officers
a) Chair: Chang
b) Vice-Chair: Khare
c) Secretary: Vijay
III. Youth Commission Apparel
-Gildan Vintage Zip Hoodie
-Design and Color to be decided at next meeting (Vijay)
IV. Special Events/ Community Outreach
1. Project Cornerstone/Redwood Involvement: will move forward
-Go back to Redwood
-Talk to them earlier on in the year so we can follow up
-Go with only the SYC
-First meeting: October
-get to know the students, get the involved with a commission event
-Second meeting: March
-check in to see if there was an effect
2. Project Cornerstone at an elementary school level: assembly/skit?
3. TFBA: Will move forward with one last trial run: November
-Stickers
-Entice them with advertisements
-Partner with TSI, The Social Impact?
-Be more proactive
-Follow up
-Pre article
4. WOW: Spring 2nd semester: March-Start of May
a. Reach out to other organizations in order to make scheduling shifts easier.
-School Clubs: Environmental Clubs
-Parks/Rec Commission
b. Add schools:
-Sacred Heart
-St. Andrews
-Foothill
-Argonaut
-Saratoga Elementary
-Blue Hills
c. Priority will be given to elementary schools
5. Holiday Celebrations:
-Lasertag (Jeremy)

-Antibullying Forum: January
-Campaign (with project cornerstone/lace up stand up)
-Saratoga Youth Speak Out

V. Collaborative Efforts
a) City Council
-Earlier meeting: They have lots of good ideas but we don’t get to hear them till the end
of the year.
b) TAB
-Discuss possible partnership/collaborative events.

MOVED TO HOLD A SECOND YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING ON SEPTEMBER
24, 2013. Motion passed. Ayes: Agrawal, Chang, Gupta, Khare, Lee, Lin, Pandya, Smith,
Sreedhara, Wang, Vijay. Noes: none. Absent: none. Abstain: none
VI. Marketing Strategies
a) Facebook Page- Jeremy
-Update the “Saratoga Youth” facebook page about twice a week with information for
teens about community involvement and volunteer opportunities, as well as community events.
b) Youth Commission Pamphlet- Somya
-Revamp last years pamphlet and add current information.
c) Videos for events- Mihir
