MINUTES

Call to Order 7:03pm
Roll Call: Eem, Debling, Kaliyur, Medhekar, Maheshwari, Pradhan, Shanbhag, Singh, Verma, Vijay,
Weisend.
Report on Posting of the Agenda: Pursuant to Government Code Section 54954.2, this meeting was
properly posted on September 3, 2015.
Accept Agenda Items : No additional items may be added pursuant to Government Code Section 54954.2.

Oral & Written Communication: Any member of the public may address the Commission about any matter
not on the agenda for this meeting for up three minutes. Commissioners may not comment on the
matter, but may choose to place the topic on a future agenda.
I. Review of the 2015 Youth Commission Training
a) Have it on the weekend next year?
a. Due to sports, other extracurriculars
II. Newly Elected Officers
a) Chair- Mitali Shanbhang
b) Vice Chair- Roshan Verma
c) Secretary- Malika Singh
d) Treasurer- Daniel Eem
Have committee leads along with this
o Ex. Walk one week, holiday events, etc.
III. Budget Update- Daniel Eem
a) Spent $47 on food
b) $2973 left in the budget
a. Try to spend less money for food
1 Budget for food (each meeting) $50
a Vote on budget:
i $40: none
ii $50: Kaliyur, Medhekar, Maheshwari, Pradhan,
Shanbhag, Singh, Verma, Vijay, Weisend
iii $55: Debling, Eem
2 Faatima offered to cater to one meeting
IV. Work Plan Discussion
a) Special Events (Cutting down by setting a limited amount to tackle)
a. All ages
1 Required events: Tree lighting, arbor day, blossom festival, Parks
handicap proposal – y. commission talks to parks & rec commission
2 Events to consider: Color run – kevin moran park? (8 votes),
Christmas in the park (clubs) possibly with ice skating rink? (7
votes), videogame tournament (3 votes), nature hike – work with parks
and rec? (5 votes)
b. Elementary School
1 Required events: Witchy walk, st patty’s day
2 Events to consider: interschool social/carnival (10 votes), WOW (ALL),
cultural day (3 votes)
c. Middle School
1 Required events: Dances (funds coming out of another account)
2 Events to consider: Rubix cube competition/workshop (3 votes), dance
competition (3 votes), board game night (1 vote), Club Rush day for
high school exposure (1 vote), Bowling night (2 votes)
d. High School
1 Required events:
2 Events to consider: Mini golf (5 votes), pizza and politics (2 votes),
laser tag (10 votes), Movie night – local businesses bring their food?
(ALL), ted talks (2 votes), Carnival (tabled), Dance/carnival (4 votes),
ice skating rink (7 votes), sports tournament (1 vote), Prom dress
drive (6 votes), Finals distressing event (1 vote)
e. EVENTS TO DO (Events voted by commission to do along with required):
1 Color run (8 votes), WOW (ALL), Interschool Social – work with rec
department on their parent’s night out event (9 votes), laser tag (5 votes),
Movie night (ALL)
