Home My WebLink About11-10-2015 Youth Commission Minutes City of Saratoga Youth Commission MINUTES DATE: Tuesday, November 9, 2015 TIME: 7:00 p.m. LOCATION: Warner Hutton House 13777 Fruitvale Avenue Saratoga, CA 95070 Call to Order 7:00pm Roll Call: Eem, Debling, Kaliyur, Medhekar, Maheshwari, Pradhan, Shanbhag, Singh, Verma, Vijay, Weisend. Report on Posting of the Agenda: Pursuant to Government Code Section 54954.2, this meeting was properly posted on November 9, 2015. Accept Agenda Items : No additional items may be added pursuant to Government Code Section 54954.2. Approval of September October 27 minutes (Kaliyur, Verma ) Oral & Written Communication: Any member of the public may address the Commission about any matter not on the agenda for this meeting for up three minutes. Commissioners may not comment on the matter, but may choose to place the topic on a future agenda. I. Review of presentation to Parks and Recreation Commission a) Added Azul park to the list because of the Blue Hills program and space for expanding b) Commission supports idea, will pass it on to city council i. Capital Improvement (CIP) project ii. City council will place the topic on their agenda II. Recap of Witchy Walk a) Successful – many kids came and enjoyed it i. Face paint and candy successful ii. Good promotion for parent’s night out 1 In the future, use witchy walk as a promotion for events iii. Organize more next year 1 Two tables a One for tattoos and face paint 2 Have stencils to make face painting easier a (Eem, Debling, Maheshwari, Pradhan, Shanbhag, Singh, Verma, Vijay, Weisend) in favor of buying stencils 3 Tattoos precut 4 Face paint designs drawn beforehand, children pick from the designs 5 Make a sign beforehand, laminate it to reuse it every year 6 Assign jobs – tattoos, nail polish, face paint, a marketer (promoter) for future events III. Recap on Parents’ Night Out a) 14 kids, Ninja, Snowflake, and Skittles supervised i. Some kids were temperamental, some stayed with the parents b) Kids enjoyed it i. Potential to return c) Slightly unorganized i. Organize by designating jobs next year ii. Meet at 4:45 iii. Know how to fill down time – filler games iv. Have different activities for different kids v. Edit flyer to say the themes 1 Advertise next one as PJ theme a Incorporate hot chocolate, “popcorn trail mix” b Charlie brown short movie during dinner IV. Discussion on State of the City with Manny Cappello a) All in favor of participation i. Talk specifics with Cappello by getting proposal V. Budget Update- Daniel Eem $2853 (not including apparel) VI. YAC Attack a) Event Theme = b) Session decision (Potential debate topics) i. Give basic information about each side beforehand 1 Common core 2 Gun control 3 Teacher tenure 4 Affirmative action 5 on campus vs off campus lunch 6 late start 7 block schedule VII. Hot Chocolate 1 Vijay – peets, verma – Argonaut starbucks, kaliyur – downtown starbucks for water containers ii. Actvities: a. Decorate your own tree i Create templates, kids decorate the tree b. Mural hand wall i “Happy Holidays from the Saratoga youth commission” i. Prep at November 24th meeting if voted upon a. Vote on prep at nov 24th meeting i. Go to a board meeting to propose the event iii. Have a youth commission email to grab more attention 1 Ask for a face to face meeting with two commissioners f) Teen Center i. Vote to propose the project: Debling, Kaliyur, Maheshwari, Pradhan, Singh, Verma, Weisend 1 Against: Medhekar, Shanbhag, Vijay 2 Absent for vote: Eem VIII.
