Report on Posting of the Agenda: Pursuant to Government Code Section 54954.2, the agenda for this
meeting was properly posted on November 29, 2011.
Accept Agenda Items & Order: No additional items may be added to this agenda pursuant to
Government Code Section 59454.2.
Oral & Written Communications: Any member of the public may address the Commission about any
matter not on the agenda for this meeting for up to three minutes. Commissioners may not comment on

Call to Order – 5:30 p.m.
Roll Call
Present: Andres, Baxter, Lemmon
Absent: None
Staff & Liaisons: Melinda Cervantes, Peggy Baker, Crystal Morrow
Public: David Elgart, Joyce Gross, Steven Shlosser, Jill Whitcomb, Richard Crause

Commissioner Andres welcomed everyone to the meeting and asked everyone in attendance to
introduce themselves.

1. Library General Obligation Bond Update
‐ Morrow provided update on projects funded by the funds remaining from the Library
General Obligation Bond.
2. Facility Update
‐ Morrow reported on facility updates.
New Business
3. Meeting Schedule and Start Time
‐ Andres introduced the item and invited discussion on the Library Commission’s start time.
‐ The Commission discussed the starting time of Commission meetings and invited members
of the public to share their thoughts.
‐ BAXTER MOTIONED TO SCHEDULE THE LIBRARY COMMISSION MEETING START TIME FOR
4:00 P.M. TO 6:00 P.M.
‐ LEMMON SECONDED THE MOTION,
‐ APPROVED 3‐0‐0
‐ The Commission discussed the date, time, and location of the December 2011 meeting.
‐ BAXTER MOVED TO HOLD THE DECEMBER MEETING ON DECEMBER 7, 2011 AT 10:00 A.M.,
PREFERABLY AT THE BOOK GO ROUND.
‐ LEMMON SECONDED THE MOTION

4. Library Usage Report
‐ Andres introduced item and invited Baker to report on library usage at Saratoga Library.
‐ Baker shared usage reports from September 2010 and September 2011.
‐ Melinda commented on changes in library card holder rates in Saratoga and Monte Sereno.
‐ The Commission discussed the non‐resident fee for library card holders that live outside of
the County Library District, impacts of electronic book readers, and opportunities to
increase the number of library card holders.

5. Melinda Cervantes, Santa Clara County Librarian
‐ Cervantes reported on Silicon Valley Reads, the upcoming JPA Board Meeting, and the
Annual Friends and Commissioners Forum.
6. Gayathri Kanth, Community Librarian
‐ Baker reported on behalf of Kanth and shared information on past and upcoming Library
programs.
7. Teri Creamer, Friends of the Saratoga Libraries
‐ Morrow shared a report from the Friends on Creamer’s behalf.
8. Sharon Andres, Library Commission Chair
‐ Andres gave a brief report congratulating Morrow for her promotion, expressing interest in
the new option to loan library books to Kindle users, and thanking the Friends for their
contributions to the community and Saratoga Library.
