Organization Attendees: Denise Goldberg, Chair Jim Stallman, Vice Chair Bill Brooks, Citizen Advisor (absent- excused) Ray Cosyn, Citizen Advisor Ann Waltonsmith, Citizen Advisor Iveta Harvancik, Staff II. Administration Minutes approved for June 2009. III. Oral and Written Communication None IV. Staff Report Parker Ranch Upper Tank Trail has been relocated; will open when legal description and Council approval has taken place. Shankar Trail is now dedicated and open. Revised City Web Site showing additional Trail Maps with an Overview Map containing hyperlinks should go live this week V. Old Business A. Joe’s Trail – working on finalizing easements; should go out to bid in Oct/Nov. B. Village Bike Racks – Staff is making final selections of bike rack type, Village Streetscape Project approval set for October VI. New Business A. Children’s Heritage Trail, Garden, and Farm – Conceptual Plan. Anna – described situation where neighbor to Peck’s wants to sell and is hopeful to have property not become condos. Betty – referenced heritage Easterbrook Garden as example of what is being proposed. Attention was called to the California History Museum, located at De Anza College, current display on the Learning Farm . Catherine - Referenced 2 books: Last Child in the Woods – Richard Louv, and Urban Sprawl and Public Health – Howard Frunkin. Cited as successful examples: Waldorf School of the Peninsula garden and Hidden Villa in Los Altos. Motion to support Plan was approved by the committee noting: 1) Trail from Saratoga Avenue connecting to the High School could finally become a reality 2) Learning Center – Farm Garden and Orchard – eliminating threat of more structures being built in the Heritage Orchard 3) Neighboring city examples – Cupertino Blackberry Farm (and trail) and Sunnyvale Central Park Orchard Center 4) Monte Sereno - Saratoga Foundation as a potential financial sponsor 2 B. Heritage Orchard Trail – Motion approved to ask Heritage Commission to 1) sign path, 2) bury water lines crossing trail, 3) notify Redwood Principal about irrigation system damage C. Biking Through History Bike Tour – 1st weekend in November; committee offered suggestion for route to include West Valley College D. San Jose Bike Plan – Comment regarding the need for San Jose to put Bike Lanes on their portion of De Anza to complete the corridor VII. Member Reports (information only, no actions to be taken) Pending Trail Updates - Saratoga to the Sea connecting to Hakone: still in discussion and making its way through agency approval process No action taken on submitting Blue Hills School RR Safety Crossing input to Cement Plant Permit renewal EIR North Campus Opening slated for Oct. 23 subsequent to Council approval on 21st VIII. Action Item Summary Staff to transmit PEBTAC approval to City Council of Children’s Heritage Trail, Garden, and Farm – Conceptual Plan Staff to submit PEBTAC request to Public Safety Commission regarding Redwood School connection to Fruitvale Path Staff to submit PEBTAC request to Heritage Preservation Commission regarding Orchard Trail Irrigation System Damage Denise and Ray to finalize History Bike Tour Adjournment – next meeting October 20th
