MINUTES

Call to Order
Roll Call: Chang, Dev, Estes, Fariba, Finch, Goel, Khare, Kuan (absent), MorganWitts, Mu,P.
Nookala, V. Nookala, Smit h, Sreedhara, Sheikh, L. Tang, S. Tang, Wilso n. Chien (alternate)
Report on Posting of the Agenda: Pursuant to Government Code Section 54954.2, this
meet ing was properly posted on September 1, 2010.
Accept Agenda Items: No addit ional items may be added pursuant to Government Code Section
54954.2.
Oral & Written Communication: Any member of the public may address the Commissio n
about any matter not on the agenda for this meeting for up three minutes. Commissioners
may not comment on the matter, but may choose to place the topic on a future agenda.
I. Welcome – Adam & Jen provided an overview of the day.
II. Go over training schedule
III. Teambuilding act ivit ies – Jen and Adam led a couple of name and teambuilding
activit ies.
IV. Overview of the Saratoga Youth Commissio n (Powerpoint Presenation)
i. Background on the Commissio n (est. in 1988)
ii. Meetings held second Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in Cit y Hall &
are mandatory
1. If you miss three meet ings in a row, you are automatically
dismissed fro m the Commissio n.
2. Must notify Adam in advance if you are coming late or have to
miss a meet ing/event.
iii. Commissio n has several ro les: Receive direct ion from Cit y Council,
provide events to teens, and represent youth and teens of Saratoga
iv. As a cit yappointed Commissio ner, must maintain professio nalism in
public; don’t compromise the integrit y of yourself, the Commissio n, or the
Cit y of Saratoga
v. Brown Act – Meetings need to open to the public and transparent at all
times
1. Do not discuss issues outside of meet ings when yo u’re in the
company of more than 10 members o f the Commission.
2. Must have a majorit y of Co mmissio ners to host a meet ing.

i. Why did you want to be on the Commissio n?
1. Improve Communit y

3. Make Saratoga a more welcoming place for teens
