Minutes Meeting

Call to Order 7:04
Roll Call: Annamalai, Baker, Dev, El-Diwany, Fariba, Fatemi, Finch (absent), Kausar, Rao, Rateau
(late), Rees, Rezaii (absent), Tang, Tkalcevic, Tseng, Zhao.
Report on Posting of the Agenda: Pursuant to Government Code Section 54954.2, this meeting
was properly posted on December 2, 2008.
Accept Agenda Items: No additional items may be added pursuant to Government Code Section
54954.2.
Approval of the November minutes.(Fariba motion, Annamalai second)
Oral & Written Communication:Any member of the public may address the Commission about
any matter not on the agenda for this meeting for up three minutes. Commissioners may not
comment on the matter, but may choose to place the topic on a future agenda.
I. New Business
a. Parent Release Forms – Turn in copy if you haven’t done so.
b. YC T-shirt
i. Yes or No?make for film fest later on in year
c. Safe Rides (Farid Jiandani) approved, unanimous
i. Logistics
Would be run through Saratoga High School
Use Warner Hutton House as a central location (twice a month)
Boy Scouts of America have overall blanket of insurance
Training process through Saratoga High School Vice Principal- Ms. Hyde
ii. Start Date as soon as possible
iii. Who would like to be involved from Commission
Can serve as drivers or riders
Contact Ms. Hyde (SHS Vice Principal)
d. After-school Program Update
i. Ad-Hoc Committee (Rateau & El-Diwany)
ii. Survey – Feedback

Change types of questions, include brief background about old program, more
questions, multiple choice, change question wording (i.e. unstructured vs.
structured)
e. Parks and Recreation Commission subcommittee meeting
i. Scheduled for December 17 th .
ii. Attending: Rateau & El-Diwany
What makes teens go to parks? Bike parks
f. KSAR class
i. Overview Taking a class to learn how to make videos

II. Old Business
a. Review of “Chill Night” Can put effort into other events such as high school events
b. Review of “Invisible Children” event
i. Attendance:good attendance, very successful event, 254 people attended, 40
people from Saratoga
ii. Collaboration: Have a dance like this in the future?, Saratoga High School
would like to have a dance like this, we can help out?
c. Review of YAC Social
i. Overview (get to know you games, dinner, each commission explains what
they do and how they are structured, dance off, discussed on way home)
ii. Feedback from participants Not very intellectual didn’t get a lot of time to
collaborate with other commissions.
1. YC Retreat? After leadership summit
2. Leadership Summit Discussion with other commissions in the South
Bay, meeting in February/March on a Saturday afternoon, large
meeting with a few reps from each commission
d. Snow Trip
i. January 31, 2009 @ Northstar
ii. Co-sponsored with Los Altos & Bay Area Ski Bus
iii. Fee: $99
1. Flyers!!!! 24 spots, start filling spots up!
e. Film Fest
i. Update from subcommittee meeting
Still moving through planning stages:
Location: Wildwood Park
Date: May 15 (tentative date)
Work alone (without help of another commission)
Start producing publicity asap - flyers, website, promo video (Natalie, Tara,
Elena), t-shirts, get businesses to help support film fest?
Film Makers: Saint Francis, Castilleja, Saratoga High School, Los Gatos, Mitty
Film Clubs

i. Saratogateen.com (updates & feedback) Kayvon was not present.
ii. Facebook –Updates Will put film fest on the calendar a soon as date is
confirmed

i. Updates? On hold for now…

i. Update on Speakers
1. EA rep (Corey/Aditya) Confirmed that he would like to do this.
2. Facebook (Corey/Sammy) Is not willing speak unless paid… (no
longer an option)
3. ALO (Aditya) Would like to speak-needs a date
4. “James Franco” (Cynthia/Lauren)Not going to be possible…(no
longer an option)
