HomeMy WebLinkAboutPoint of Interest MarkersCity Council February 1, 2017 Point of Interest Markers Background •February 2016, City Council discussed 2016/2017 HPC work plan. •Work Plan Item: Properly recognize properties of special interest by installing markers. •Council directed the HPC to return to Council with the specifics of the recognitions proposed. Point of Interest Markers •Goal is to commemorate events and places that are identified with the City that are no longer in existence. •Theater Glade/Saratoga Inn site •Blossom Festival site •The Point of Interest Marker will not identify a heritage site and will not be associated with Saratoga’s Heritage Resources Inventory. •Install markers on public property or a street right-of-way. Point of Interest Markers Summarized Process •HPC researches significance of a site. •HPC and Director of Community Development drafts the text for the marker. •HPC and Director of Public Works design a Point of Interest Marker. •Director of Public Works recommends approval of the marker location. •City Council will determine: •Whether or not there should be a marker,and if so, •Final text,marker design and location •Director of Public Works responsible for contracting the manufacturing and placement of the marker. Point of Interest Marker Example Recommended Action Adopt a resolution authorizing a process for establishing Points of Interest Markers on public property or within a street right of way.
