Santa Clara County National Heritage Area formation
Background
•Santa Clara County has begun a process for consideration as
a National Heritage Area
•Early stage which involves seeking support from local cities
•The Inner City Council of Mayors and the City of Milpitas
have provided support
National Heritage Area Formation
•A feasibility study & letters of support submitted to National
Park Service and considered by the U.S. Congress
•Congress required to pass a resolution designating the Santa
Clara County National Heritage Area
•A National Heritage Area Management Plan is developed &
implemented after designation
Benefit to the City of Saratoga
•The City could partner w/ the Santa Clara County National Heritage
Area in the future to apply for federal funding related to Heritage
Preservation
•Designation of the Santa Clara County National Heritage Area would
not impact local land use decisions
•Environmental review & other regulations for future City projects are
determined on a project-by-project basis
Recommended Action:
Adopt a resolution supporting designation of Santa Clara County as a
National Heritage Area
