Site Visit(s): a. None 2. Roll Call-Annette Stransky, Marilyn Marchetti, Paula Cappello, Alexandra Nugent, Dr. Jo Rodgers, and Rina Shah 3. Oral Communications Any member of the public may address the Commission about any matter not on the agenda for this meeting for up to three minutes. Commissioners may not comment on the matter but may choose to place the topic on a future agenda. 4. Approval of minutes April 10, 2018 5. New Business: a. None 6. Staff Comments: a. Commissioner Packets b. Council Actions update c. HPC meeting time 7. Old Business: a. DPR staff update and research status by Commission and other tasks (Workplan). a. Each Commissioner to provide status update (which projects are at 50%). b. Events/Calendar: Preservation Month (May), Funding. (Stransky), Blossom Festival (June 23). c. Guidelines for projects along Heritage Lanes (continued from April 10, 2018). 8. The appeal shall be taken by filing with the Secretary of the Heritage Preservation Commission a written notice and filing fee within ten (10) days of the date of the decision. In accordance with the Ralph M. Brown Act, copies of the staff reports and other materials provided to the Heritage Preservation Commission by City staff in connection with this agenda are available at the office of the Community Development Department Director at 13777 Fruitvale Avenue, Saratoga, California 95070. Any materials distributed by staff after the posting of the agenda are made available for public review at the office of the Director at the time they are distributed to the Heritage Preservation Commission. Roll Call: Present: Stransky, Marchetti, Rodgers, Nugent, Cappello, Shah Absent: None Staff: Johnson 3. Oral Communications: None 4. Approval of minutes from February 13, 2018 and March 13, 2018 meetings. February 13, 2018- Shah/Nugent moved to approve. Motion passed. Ayes: Marchetti, Stransky, Nugent, and Rodgers, Cappello and Shah. Noes: None. Absent: None Abstain: None. March 13, 2018 -Marchetti/Nugent moved to approve. Motion passed. Ayes: Marchetti, Stransky, Nugent, and Rodgers. Noes: None. Absent: None Abstain: Cappello and Shah 5. New Business: a. 20640 Third Street-New residential/office building The Commission considered a request for a new residential/office building adjacent to the Sam Cloud Barn, which is on the City’s Historic Inventory. The Commission expressed concerns that the proposed structure was not compatible with the historic barn (ie: architecture, roof lines, number and sizes of windows) and would block the view of the barn. Marchetti\Rodgers moved to not recommend approval of the project to the Planning Commission because the location of the proposed structure adversely affects the character of the barn. Motion passed. Ayes: Marchetti, Stransky, Nugent, Rodgers, Cappello and Shah. Noes: None. Absent: Abstain: None. Page 2 of 2 6. Staff Comments: a. Workplan format Johnson asked the Commission to review the revised work plan format and suggest modifications if any at the next meeting. b. Minutes format Johnson asked the Commission if they liked the new format which includes more information. The consensus of the Commission was that they liked the new format. c. Saratoga Creek Bridge (Long Bridge) Johnson explained to the Commission per the City Manager, that since the bridge is located in the County and not under the City’s jurisdiction, that the HPC cannot provide comments regarding the bridge but as individuals they can send letters of opposition to the removal of the Saratoga Creek Bridge. d. Site Visits Johnson asked the Commission if they were ok, if there is a site visit scheduled, to meet at the site first and then come to City Hall to resume the meeting. The Commission agreed this was a good idea. 7. Old Business: a. DPR Staff updated and research status by Commission and other tasks (Workplan). Johnson explained to the Commission that they can use the application form instead of the DPR form for proposed Heritage Inventory properties. b. Events/Calendar: Blossom Festival (March 24), State of the City (April 28), Arbor Day (April 25), Preservation Month (May), Funding. (Stransky) Johnson asked if a member of the Commission can and attend a May City Council meeting to accept the Preservation Month proclamation. Johnson requested the Commission to follow up with an email. c. Guidelines for projects along Heritage Lanes Continued to the next agenda. 8. Adjournment Meeting was adjourned.
