HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-25-2018 Youth Commission Minutes DATE: Tuesday, September 25, 2018 TIME: 7:00 p.m. LOCATION: Warner Hutton House 13777 Fruitvale Avenue Saratoga, CA 9507 0 City of Saratoga Youth Commission Minutes Call to Order (Smails 7:03pm) Roll Call: Agarwal, Cheatham, Chittharanjan, Koneru, Miller, Peer, Pyun, Rammohan, Smails, Wiles, Yoon. Report on Posting of the Agenda: Pursuant to Government Code Section 54954.2, this m eeting was properly post ed on September 21, 2018. Accept Agenda Items : No additional items may be added pursuant to Government Code Section 54954.2. Approval of September 11th minutes Motion to Approve (Agarwal, Cheatham) Oral & Written Communication: Any member of the public may address the Commission about any matter not on th e agenda for this meeting for up three minutes. Commissioners may not comment on the matter, but may choose to place the topic on a future agenda. I. Event Recap a) Joint Meeting & Work Plan a. What did you learn? • Contact for cooperation • Council Member Miller interested in helping with Color Dash • City Manager (James) – seek venue for art exhibit with Rotary Club • Council Member Cappello – SASCC Health Fair b. How will you implement feedback this year? • Potentially set meeting dates to discuss events b) City Council a. Observations • Efficiency • Organization (time management of topics) • Passionate (not afraid to voice individual ideas) b. Take away to bring to Youth Commission meetings this year? c) Superhero Dance a. What went well? • Inclusive • Good Energy • Social Media Chair was great at the event and documenting while dancing, too! b. Areas of improvement? • Increased participation from the Youth Commission d) Celebrating Differences Carnival a. What went well? • Good teamwork on activities b. Can you use anything to better our future events from their model? • Better set up for temporary tattoos • Clarify Youth Commission roles for future events e) State of the Assembly a. What did you learn? • Legislative process (i.e. climate change, gun laws, city transportation) II. Breathe California a) Vote on requested support • Motion to Sign the support document with a unanimous vote (Smails, Aragwal) 8-3 REJECTED • Motion to not sign the support document as a commission (Smails, Peer) – Unanimous PASSED b) October 3rd – Meeting • Motion to make an appearance at the Oct. 3rd meeting (Smails, Cheatham) PASSED unanimous o Kami & Mary Elizabeth will show up individually III. YAC Social a) Attendance • October 11th 5:30-8:00pm • Meet at El Quito Starbucks: All Commissioners (if cannot attend, email Kayla) b) Rides to Belmont IV. Tree Planting Event/Brainstorm & Potential Partnership with Parks & Recreation Commission • 10-12pm Saturday, November 17th at No Name Park • Motion to host the tree planting at No Name Park (Smails, Wiles) – unanimous PASSED V. Apparel a) Vote on apparel for the year • Motion to approve black quarter zips for apparel (Smails, Yoon) VI. Important Upcoming Dates • October 3rd: City Council Meeting 7:00-8:00pm – Civic Theater • October 11th: YAC Social 5:30-8:00pm - Belmont • October 19th: Pizza & Politics TBD – Cupertino Chamber VII.
