COMMISSION
MINUTES
Date: Tuesday, June 8, 2004 8:30 a.m.
Place: Warner Hutton House, 13777 Fruitvale Avenue
Type: Regular Meeting
I. Routine Organization
A. Roll Call – PRESENT: Ballingall, Lowdermilk, Wyman, Bailey, Conrado
ABSENT: Dodge, Louden GUESTS: Ron Vega, Gordon Duncan, Denise
Goldberg
B. Approval o f minutes from 4/13/04 and 5/11/04, both approved 50
C. Posting of Agenda – Pursuant to Government Code Section 54954.2, the
agenda was posted on Thursday June 3, 2004
D. Oral & Written Communicat ion Any member of the public may address the
Commissio n about any matter not on the agenda for this meet ing for up to
three minutes. Commissioners may not comment on the matter but may choose
to place the topic on a future agenda.–Tom Lowdermilk gave a book review.
II. Old Business
A. Update on status of County Grant for McWilliams House renovations – Item
discussed.
B. Placing brass plaques on historic houses – Sandra Dodge will update.
C. Work Plan assignments – Discussed work plan.
III. New Business
A. Provide recommendations to the Cit y Council for the June 16, 2004 meeting
on applying for State Landmark status for five Cit y properties. The
recommendations should include using staff, consultants, or HPC members to
provide the services and the cost and time associated with each applicat ion. –
Item discussed.
B. Assign two HPC members to be on a committee to review a request for a
proposed path in the Heritage Orchard to reduce dirt from being tracked into
the library. – Phylis Ballingall and Paul Conrado volunteered to be on the
committee.
C. Reco mmend to the Cit y Council for the June 16, 2004 meet ing that the Fire
Bell be moved from Oak Street to the new Fire Station Recommended
approval 50 to the Cit y Council.
D. Review West Valley College Notice o f Preparation of an EIR, and propose
comments. – Item discussed and a field trip to review the site was
recommended for the July meet ing.
E. Propose homes to be placed on the Land Mark Status List. Discussed
recommending to Council #63, #100, #58, #36, #37, from the Heritage
Resources List as potential landmark candidates and giving them plaques.
IV. Items to be placed on the next Agenda –Discuss placement of the Martin King
Plaque. Place the Mustard Walk on the next agenda and ask the Arts Commission to
attend. Start the HPC meet ings at 8:30 am instead of 9:00.
V. Pending Items
A. Review list of properties with structures 50 years and over in age.
B. Retreat
C. Historic Calendar
D. Adopt a Tree Program for the Heritage Orchard
E. Historic Preservation Data Base
F. Update Heritage Ordinance
G. Take Historic Park Master Plan to Council
