HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-12-2002 HPC MinutesCity of Saratoga HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION MINUTES Date: Tuesday, November 12, 2002 8:30 a.m. Place: Warner Hutton House, 13777 Fruitvale Avenue Type: Regular Meeting The meeting will start at 8:30 to allow additional time for two site visits. The first site visit will be at 14495 Big Basin Way; the second site visit will be the Hayfield House. Please meet in front of the Warner Hutton House and I will drive everyone to the site visits. I. Routine Organization A. Roll Call: PRESENT – Bailey, Ballingall, Conrado, Grens, Lowdermilk, Peck ABSENT – Koepernik GUESTS ­ Beth Wyman, Jill Hunter B. Approval of minutes from 10/8/02 and 10/18/02 – Approved 4­0 with minor modifications (Two members had to leave early. Dora Grens had to leave due to injuries received from falling during a site visit. ) C. Posting of the Agenda ­ Pursuant to Government Code Section 54954.2, the agenda was posted on Thursday November 7, 2002 D. Oral Communications ­None E. Written Communications ­ None II. Old Business A. Historic calendar –Phylis Ballingall gave update. B. Heritage Orchard update by Iveta Harvancik – Dennis Leong will be the project manager for the Public Works Department orchard improvements. Dennis gave an update to the HPC on the orchard improvements. The HPC approved the following 4­0: The HPC approved the approximate location of the proposed orchard irrigation pump and asked that the enclosure around the pump be made of wood and look old. The HPC approved the use of Peach trees to replace dead Cherry trees. The Cherry trees have not been doing well in the orchard. A non­till system was also approved for the orchard. III. New Business A. Addition to the existing cleaners at 14495 Big Basin Way – The proposed project was approved 4­0 with the condition that the stone be exposed on the west side of the first floor and that the metal “S” brackets be maintained to match the neighboring building. The condition allows the mortar to be re­ pointed. The condition also requires that the applicant come back to the HPC with a proposal for a plaque to be placed on the house stating the year built along with some historic information. B. Completion of the remodel to the Hayfield House – The final remodel of the house was reviewed and approved 4­0. IV. Items Initiated by the Commission Design of the Heritage Orchard Renovation sign – Item was continued to the next meeting. V. Items Initiated by the Secretary A. Design of the Austin Way Sign designated the new Heritage Lane –Continued to next meeting B. Update on the Heritage Resource Inventory progress – Continued to next meeting C. Appoint a HPC Chair by January 31 st –Continued to next meeting VI. Adjournment 9:00 a.m. Tuesday December 10, 2002 –Warner Hutton House
