HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION
MINUTES
Date: Tuesday, December 10, 2002 9:00 a.m.
Place: Warner Hutton House, 13777 Fruitvale Avenue
Type: Regular Meeting
I. Routine Organization
A. Roll Call: PRESENT – Bailey, Ballingall, Conrado, Grens, Koepernik,
Lowdermilk, Peck.
B. Approval of minutes from 11/12/02 – Approved 70
C. Posting of the Agenda Pursuant to Government Code Section 54954.2,
the agenda was posted on Thursday December 5, 2002
D. Oral Communications None
E. Written Communications – Phylis Ballingall submitted her notes from
the Arts Commission meeting.
II. Old Business
A. Historic calendar (Submit totals for Mid Year Budget Reimbursement) –
Approximately 320 calendars were sold.
B. Heritage Orchard update – Norm Koepernik updated the Commission on the
last City Council meeting about the Orchard.
III. New Business
A. Mustard Walk Banner –A preliminary design was approved 70
B. Assign committee to organize Mustard Walk with Art Commission and Wine
Makers. Who gets what space, advertising, food, etc. – Several Commissioners
volunteered to organize various aspects of the Mustard Walk.
IV. Items Initiated by the Commission
Design of the Heritage Orchard Renovation sign – Norm Koepernik brought in
several examples of signs. One example was approved 70.
V. Items Initiated by the Secretary
A. Design of the Austin Way Sign designated the new Heritage Lane – The
Commission voted 70 to keep all of the signs the same as the signs for
Saratoga Avenue Heritage Lane.
B. Update on the Heritage Resource Inventory progress – The Commission
decided to wait until after the joint CC meeting for further direction before
continuing with the process.
C. Appoint a HPC Chair by January 31 st . – Phylis Ballingall was elected Chair.
Approved 70
D. Joint meeting with the City Council January 21, 2003 (Prepare a list of topics)
– The HPC discussed staff’s memo and added the topic of how to administer
fund raising programs.
