RESOLUTION No. HP-19-04
RESOLUTION OF THE HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF SARATOGA FOR APPLICATION HPC19-0007
TO UPDATE THE HERITAGE RESOURCE INVENTORY BY INCLUDING THE EICHLER
ENTRANCE PLANTER
LOCATED AT 19201 SHUBERT DRIVE
WHEREAS, the Heritage Preservation Commission was established by the City
Council in 1982 to assist with and encourage the preservation of Saratoga’s heritage resources,
and
WHEREAS, one of the Commission’s primary duties, as established in Section
13.10.040(a) of the City Code is to update the Heritage Resource Inventory, and
WHEREAS, on July 9, 2019, the Heritage Preservation Commission held a duly
noticed public meeting on the subject matter, and considered evidence presented by a Heritage
Preservation Commissioner, City staff, the property owner, and other interested parties.
NOW THEREFORE, the Heritage Preservation Commission of the City of Saratoga
hereby finds, determines and resolves as follows:
Section 1: The recitals set forth above are true and correct and incorporated herein by
reference.
Section 2: The Heritage Preservation Commission has determined that criteria (a), (b), (e) and
(g), as established by Section 13.15.010 of Saratoga’s Municipal Code, have been met to include the
entrance planter located at 19201 Shubert Drive in the Heritage Resource Inventory as follows:
•It exemplifies or reflects special elements of the cultural, social, economic, political,
aesthetic, engineering or architectural history of the City, the County, the State or the nation
in that the planters were designed by a highly regarded firm as part of an Eichler
subdivision to make a statement to the community and to welcome residents and visitors;
•It is identified with persons or events significant in local, county, state or national history in
that the developer of the subdivision was the well-known Joseph Eichler;
•It embodies or contributes to unique physical characteristics representing an established and
familiar visual feature of a neighborhood or district within the City in that the Eichler
planters are unique to the neighborhood; and
•It embodies or contributes to a unique natural setting or environment constituting a distinct
area or district within the City having special character or special historical, architectural or
aesthetic interest or value in that the planters are unique to the Saratoga Eichler subdivision.

Section 3: The Heritage Preservation Commission hereby approves HPC19-0007 to
include the Eichler entrance planter at 19201 Shubert Drive on the Heritage Resource
Inventory.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Heritage Preservation Commission of the City of
Saratoga on this 9th day of July 2019 by the following vote:
AYES: Marchetti, Shah, and Nugent
NOES: None
ABSENT: Rodgers and Stransky
ABSTAIN: None
