Youth Commission
MINUTES
Call to Order
(7:01pm)
Roll Call: Chittharanjan (Tardy), Koneru, Liu, Madhan (Absent), Peer, Pyun, Raamkumar,
Rammohan, Wang, Zhai (Tardy).
Report on Posting of the Agenda: Pursuant to Government Code Section 54954.2, this
m eeting was properly post ed on October 17, 2019.
Accept Agenda Items : No additional items may be added pursuant to Government Code Section
54954.2.
Approval of October 8th minutes (Pyun motion to approve the minutes; Koneru second. (7-0; PASSED) In
Favor: Koneru, Liu, Peer, Pyun, Raamkumar, Rammohan, Wang. Opposed: none. Abstained: none.
Oral & Written Communication: Any member of the public may address the Commission about any
matter not on th e agenda for this meeting for up to three minutes. Commissioners may not
comment on the matter but may choose to place the topic on a future agenda.
I. Presentation
a. Santa Clara County Office of Education
Speaker – Yee Wan
b. #YouthVoiceLive2020
Hosted by Santa Clara County of Education, Women’s Equality 2020 Leadership Council.
- Student/youth centered civic engagement event; Saturday, May 9, 2020
- Empower youth to participate in the civic engagement process
- Promote leadership, service, and advocacy in youth
- Opportunities include rallies, multiple sessions, opportunities for Saratoga Youth
Commission to share ideas, half-day leadership institute.
- Planning meeting in December, survey will be out end of November
II. YAC Social Recap
a. What did you like most about the social?
Meeting other commissions, sharing ideas regarding problems in youth society, team
building exercises.
b. Anything we can improve on?
Attendance (only 5 Saratoga Youth Commissioners attended this year)
c. What topic would you like to share?
Mental health/illness, drug/abuse, college applications, career options.
Opportunity for Saratoga Youth Commission: Participate in Mental Health Awareness
Event in the Spring hosted by the Redwood Teen Advisory Board.

Hand out candy (limit in the beginning to avoid running out of candy); no scary or
inappropriate costumes

V. City Council Meeting

c. Donation Policy
- Council approval required before we can solicit donations
- Raising funds for one park (preferred) or multiple?
- Parks & Recreation Commission is doing ADA on parks in Saratoga
- Fundraising ideas/possibilities
- Selling succulents at a community event
- Color Dash (including posters with Youth Commission goals depicted for
motivation)
- Fundraiser
- Dance
- Outdoor movie
VI. Kahoot
a. Joan Pisani Community Center
Decorations: balloons, poster boards, streamers
People bring supplies to the next meeting
b. Tuesday, November 26th from 3:30-5:00pm
(Arrive at 2:15pm for set up)

- Stratford, Harker, Sacred Heart, St. Andrews, Downtown (Zhai)
- Big Basin (Koneru)
- Prospect (Rammohan)
- El Quito Starbucks (Peer)
Goal for approval of flyer by November 5th.

Abstained: none.
Prizes: Grand prize will be Sky High Tickets, Runner up prizes are TBD,
Participation prizes will be water bottles designed by Liu.

a. Schedule the tentative months
- Multicultureal Art Extravaganza – April 25th
- Host at Wildwood Park (outdoors), Blaney Plaza by where the Tree
Lighting event happens, Joan Pisani Community Center, MPR

b. Collaboration Updates
i. Parks & Recreation Commission – Madhan & Chittharanjan
ii. Saratoga Library Teen Advisory Board – Koneru & Rammohan

• November 6th: Donation Policy Request – 7:00-8:00pm – Civic Theater
• November 29th: Tree Lighting – 5:00-6:30pm – Blaney Plaza
