HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-27-2019 Library Commission MinutesSaratoga Library Commission Minutes - Page 1 of 3 MINUTES SARATOGA LIBRARY COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 27, 2019 CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 7:04 p.m. at the Saratoga Library at 13650 Saratoga Avenue. ROLL CALL Present: Chair Flora Hoffman, Vice Chair Robert Gulino, Commissioner Christina Meiser Steven White Absent: Commissioner Eric Lewis (excused) Also Present: Chris Brown, Michael Eitner, Alice Patrick, Viraaj Reddi, Shreya Mani, Crystal Bothelio ORAL COMMUNICATIONS ON NON-AGENDIZED ITEMS None AGENDA ITEMS 1. Library Commission Minutes Recommended Action: Review and approve the Library Commission minutes from June 25, 2019 meeting. GULINO/HOFFMAN MOVED TO APPROVE THE LIBRARY COMMISSION MINUTES FROM JUNE 25, 2019 MEETING WITH A CORRECTION TO REMOVE A TYPO IN THE ROLL CALL. MOTION PASSED. AYES: GULINO, HOFFMAN, MEISER, WHITE. NOES: NONE. ABSTAIN: NONE. ABSENT: LEWIS. 2. Saratoga Library Teen Advisory Board Report Recommended Action: Receive report from the Teen Advisory Board. Teen Advisory Board Members Viraaj Reddi and Shreya Mani discussed the Teen Advisory Board activities planned for the school. Saratoga Library Commission Minutes - Page 2 of 3 3. Santa Clara County Library District Behavior Policy Recommended Action: Provide feedback and input to the Santa Clara County Library District Board on the draft Behavior Policy. Chris Brown, Santa Clara County Deputy Librarian, provided an overview of the draft Behavior Policy. The Library Commission reviewed the draft and requested no changes. 4. Community News & Trends Recommended Action: Share news and trends within the community. Commissioner Meiser shared an update from the June Joint Powers Authority meeting. The Commission discussed Project Cornerstone, mental health, teen stress and anxiety, and poetry. REPORTS 1. Nancy Howe, Santa Clara County Librarian Chris Brown, Deputy County Librarian, reported on behalf of Nancy Howe. He shared information about the Macmillan Library lending model changes. 2. Michael Eitner, Saratoga Community Librarian Michael Eitner, Saratoga Community Librarian, shared information about the summer reading program, community room audio visual improvements, conversion of the staff meeting room to a public meeting space, and new Library staff. 3. Alice Patrick, Friends of the Saratoga Libraries Alice Patrick, Friends of the Saratoga Libraries President, shared information about the general meeting in June, life memberships, the Friends website, and use of Square for credit card payments at the Book-Go-Round. Flora Hoffman, Library Commission Chair Chair Hoffman shared that she would be unable to attend the June meeting to addressed questions related to the Library Commission’s recommended changes to the roles and responsibilities. Vice Chair Gulino volunteered to attend. 5. Crystal Bothelio, Saratoga Assistant City Manager Crystal Bothelio, Assistant City Manager, shared information about State of the City, Personal Emergency Preparedness, and a Composting Basics Workshop.
