HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-14-2020 Youth Commission Meeting MinutesSaratoga Youth Commission Agenda – Page 1 of 4 SARATOGA YOUTH COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING APRIL 14, 2020 Teleconference/Public Participation Information to Mitigate the Spread of COVID‐19 This meeting will be entirely by teleconference. All Commission members, staff, and public will only participate via the Zoom platform using the process described below. The meeting is being conducted in compliance with the Governor’s Executive Order N‐29‐20 suspending certain teleconference rules required by the Ralph M. Brown Act. The purpose of this order was to provide the safest environment for the public, elected officials, and staff while allowing for continued operation of the government and public participation during the COVID‐19 pandemic. Members of the public view and participate in the meeting by using the Zoom website https://us04web.zoom.us/j/444889620 or App (Webinar ID 444 889 620) and using the tool to raise their hand in the Zoom platform when directed by the Chair to speak on an agenda item. The public will not be able to participate in the meeting in person. As always, members of the public can send written comments to the Commission prior to the meeting by commenting online at www.saratoga.ca.us/yc prior to the start of the meeting. These emails will be provided to the members of the Commission and will become part of the official record of the meeting. During the meeting the Chair will explain the process for members of the public to be recognized to offer public comment. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS ON NON-AGENDIZED ITEMS Saratoga Youth Commission Agenda – Page 2 of 4 Any member of the public may address the Youth Commission for up to three (3) minutes on matters not on the Agenda. The law generally prohibits the Youth Commission from discussing or taking action on such items. However, the Youth Commission can schedule the item for discussion at a future meeting. AGENDA ITEMS: 1. Youth Commission Minutes Recommended Action: Review and approve the draft minutes from the March 17, 2020 and March 27, 2020 meetings. Rammohan motioned to approve the March 17, 2020 and March 27, 2020 minutes. Koneru seconded the motion. AYES: Chittharanjan, Koneru, Liu, Madhan, Peer, Pyun, Raamkumar, Rammohan, Wang, Zhai. NOES: none. ABSTAIN: none. 2. YAC Attack Debrief Recommended Action: Review and share feedback about the YAC Attack 2020 teen conference. -Lecture was not as engaging as live discussion and debate. -Add visuals like slides during the lecture. -Have a more efficient way of note-taking, and prepare more in advance. Health Subcommittee Recommended Action: Review any updates and discuss implementation platforms. -Recreate existing tik tok dances, and have people tag us. -DIY videos such as homemade masks and hand sanitizers. -Prizes: gift cards from Uber Eats. -Youth Commissioners send in thank you videos to essential workers. Video planned to be released on April 20. 3. Art and Quarantine Subcommittee Recommended Action: Review any updates and discuss implementation platforms. -Art challenge topics will be released weekly. -Participants fulfilling at least 4/7 challenges are eligible for a $5 gift card prize. -Include examples in posts for clarity, and specify dates in the weekly graphic. 4. Food Subcommittee Recommended Action: Review any updates and discuss implementation platforms. -How-to videos -Post weekly videos about certain recipes. Create videos every Friday regarding those recipes. -Create own page for the Community Cookbook. Saratoga Youth Commission Agenda – Page 3 of 4 5. Schedule Subcommittee Implementation Recommended Action: Consider and determine a rotation schedule for subcommittee work through May 12, 2020. Zhai motioned to approve the calendar for subcommittee work through May 12. Pyun seconded the motion. AYES: Chittharanjan, Koneru, Liu, Madhan, Peer, Pyun, Raamkumar, Rammohan, Wang, Zhai. NOES: none. ABSTAIN: none. 6. SED Talk Recommended Action: Receive update from the committee. Koneru motioned to move the SED Talk to a time later in the year. Madhan seconded the motion. AYES: Chittharanjan, Koneru, Liu, Madhan, Peer, Pyun, Raamkumar, Rammohan, Wang, Zhai. NOES: none. ABSTAIN: none. 7. Art Extravaganza Recommended Action: Receive update from the committee. Zhai motioned to postpone the Art Extravaganza to next year. Liu seconded the motion. Liu AYES: Chittharanjan, Koneru, Liu, Madhan, Peer, Pyun, Raamkumar, Rammohan, Wang, Zhai. NOES: none. ABSTAIN: none. 8. Future Agenda Items Recommended Action: Consider agenda items for upcoming meetings. The next regular Youth Commission meeting is scheduled for May 12, 2020.
