A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SARATOGA
IN SUPPORT OF SENATE BILL 795 (BEALL)
BUILDING AFFORDABLE AND INCLUSIVE COMMUNITIES
WHEREAS, housing prices in California and particularly in Santa Clara County have
ballooned, displacing the most vulnerable residents and increasing rates of homelessness; and
WHEREAS, Senate Bill (SB) 795 seeks to provide a reliable and sustainable source of
funding to address homelessness and provide affordable housing throughout the State; and
WHEREAS, SB 795 would commit $2 billion per year towards housing projects, housing
assistance programs, economic development, and climate resiliency without negatively affecting
funding for schools; and
WHEREAS, while the State has enacted various legislation with the intent to reduce
barriers to building housing, the demand for housing remains at an all-time high; and
WHEREAS, passage of SB 795 would represent an unparalleled commitment by the State
to making a meaningful change and resolve the housing crisis in California.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Saratoga does
hereby support SB 795 (Beall), encourages Saratoga community members to express their thoughts
on this bill to their State representatives, and urges the California State Legislature and the
Governor of California to sign this bill into law.
The above and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the Saratoga
City Council held on the 1st day of July 2020 by the following vote:
