** Safety is Snow Problem this Winter **
Check out these tips from the City of Saratoga to prevent identity theft and keep you and your family safe this winter:
1. Install a locking mailbox and have your mail held at the Post Office when you are out of town
2. Shred account statements, credit card offers, and other pieces of mail with personal information on them
3. Consider a credit freeze to prevent thieves from opening new lines of credit in your name
4. Use a random combination of letters, numbers, and special characters for passwords
5. Confirm the legitimacy of unexpected requests for payment, even from someone claiming to be a family member
** Neighborhood Watch Gathering **
Neighborhood Watch groups are required to hold and report at least one gathering per calendar year to stay registered. The deadline to
report your gathering on the City website is December 31. Everyone in the Neighborhood Watch group should be invited to the gathering,
but there are no other requirements. Gatherings can be as simple as inviting neighbors to a local restaurant for dinner or hosting a 30-minute
meet-and-greet with one of your local patrol deputies. Other gathering ideas include a holiday cookie exchange or a backyard barbecue on
a mild California winter day.
Groups are also welcome to invite the Sheriff’s Office to their gathering to discuss current trends and tips. Requests should be submitted at
least 1 week in advance through the City website.
The City also offers an annual grant of up to $300 to registered groups.
