RE: Recently completed training and upcoming 1st/2nd Quarter CY-2025 training classes for
members of the City of Saratoga CERT organization
Dear Mr. Morley,
Saratoga CERT will be fully supporting and recruiting for the four quarterly CY-2025 Santa
Clara County Fire Department CERT Academy classes as described in the January 06, 2025
letter sent from Gracie Hernandez and Arthur Tomasetti (SCCFD) to you (RE: “2025 Santa
Clara County Fire CERT Training schedule”). In addition to these four upcoming SCCFD
CERT Academy classes, the following are training sessions and classes that have either
been recently completed or that will be conducted during the first and second quarters of
CY-2025 for the active membership of Saratoga CERT:
1. Saratoga CERT revised/updated Handheld Neighborhood Radio Protocol and
Forms training: three sessions held to date, on 10 October 2024, 12 December
2024, and 15 January 2025. A total of 64 of our 75 active CERT members attended
one of the three training sessions. We will attempt to catch the final "stragglers"
during a final session scheduled for late February 2025.
2. Crush Syndrome training: an on-line interactive Zoom training session conducted
by Colin Tanner of Morgan Hill CERT. A total of 25 of our Saratoga CERT members
attended this 10 December 2024 training class. Additional classes (same content)
will be conducted in February and likely May 2025.
3. PG&E Electrical and Natural Gas utilities training for CERT volunteers (during
and after a major natural disaster): a session is currently being scheduled with Kevin
Conant, PG&E's Senior Public Safety Specialist for Santa Clara County, for a
weekday evening during the week of either 27 January, 03 February, or 10 February
2025. I have surveyed our CERT membership and am working with Kevin to finalize
the date of this in-person training class.
4. San Jose Water Company utilities training for CERT volunteers (during and after a
major natural disaster): I am working with SJWC to coordinate an in-person class for
our CERT members that will focus on water distribution and impacts to community
water service due to a major natural disaster. This training will likely be held in late
February or early-to-mid March 2025.
5. "Stop the Bleed" training for CERT volunteers: to be conducted by the CERT
Instructional Team of the SCCFD on Thursday evening, 03 April 2025. I will be widely
promoting this training, as it has been several years since we have conducted this
training course specifically for the membership of Saratoga CERT.
6. CY-2025 Countywide CERT Field Exercise, planned, organized and executed by the
Countywide CERT Leadership Team of Santa Clara County (SCC CCLT). To be
conducted on Saturday, 03 May 2025 in the "South County" region at San
Martin/Gwinn Elementary School in San Martin, CA. This will be widely promoted for
attendance by both Saratoga CERT and other jurisdictional CERT organizations
throughout Santa Clara County.
Please contact me at e-mail address ‘charles_rader@hotmail.com’ if you should have any
questions about this training schedule.
Sincerely yours,
Charles L. Rader
